The Central Adirondack Association (CAA) has announced the return of Old Forge’s Winter Carnival on February 5th through 7th.
CAA Events Coordinator Laurie Barkauskas said the Winter Carnival committee is excited to bestow this year’s royalty honors to Chris and Diane (Winslow) Gaige, of Old Forge.
“Their involvement with McCauley Mountain’s ski patrol, the Polar Bear Ski Club and the Town of Webb Union Free School District makes them the perfect King and Queen of Winter Carnival 2016,” Barkauskas said. Continue reading

A Snowmobile Poker Run will be hosted by the Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club on Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, 2016.
When the Poker Run ends at 5 p.m. on Saturday, prizes will be distributed at a party at Daiker’s Inn.
The party will start at 5:15 Saturday with winners receiving cash payouts from a purse of $700. Continue reading

The Town of Webb Board, following a resolution adopted in November, agreed to ask Herkimer County to erect “no parking” signs to limit parking on a 200-foot stretch of the South Shore Road, but that measure is now being reconsidered.
The Board adopted the resolution in response to complaints of nearby property owners.
The property owners said the cars, which overflow from the Red Dog Tavern on busy nights, impair the visibility of both themselves and oncoming traffic, as they attempt to exit their driveway. Continue reading
Diana Riggs Genung died peacefully on January 11, 2016, surrounded by her family at the Parlin House Hospice Residence in Wayland, MA, following a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Known from an early age as Dinny, she was born in Elmira, NY in 1946, the daughter of Elizabeth Falck Riggs Hart and John S. Riggs. She graduated from Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, MA and Beaver College in Glenside, PA.
Dinny was recognized and deeply loved by her friends, her large family and those she touched for her kind, charitable and accepting nature. Continue reading
Grand Champion Seistan’s Rough & Ready a.k.a. “Roughie” has qualified and entered the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Roughie started her career as a puppy graduate from “Back to Basics” training in Woodgate.
She went on to being shown by Pam Centola of Old Forge—winning her first weekend out.
She has since gone on to be shown by Team Threlfall, Evan and Stacy Threlfall from Derry, N.H.
Roughie has since done some powerful winning up & down the East Coast. She finished fifth in Grand Champion points in 2015.
Now it’s on to the big show on Monday, February 15th in New York City.
