Area residents of all ages took advantage of the opportunity to attend close-to-home political rallies for presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump on Tuesday, April 12th.

Old Forge residents Paul and Kathy Rivet and son Jack, an eighth grade student at Town of Webb School, traveled to downtown Syracuse to see Bernie Sanders at the OnCenter Convention Center. Continue reading →

Poetry & Illustration Contest winners announced at library reception

Winners and Honorable Mentions of the Old Forge Library’s “Boundaries” Poetry and Illustration Contest were announced in front of a capacity crowd at an opening exhibit reception held at the library on Tuesday, March 15th.

Cause of fire undetermined at Hollisters Trading Post; investigation continues

The cause of a fire that seriously damaged Hollisters Trading Post at 3286 State Route 28 in Old Forge on Tuesday, March 8 is currently undetermined and being investigated by fire and insurance officials, according to Old Forge Fire Chief Charles Bogardus. Continue reading →

Karleigh Hollister named to State Team; Polar Bears compete at Kandahar Alpine Championships

Four Polar Bear alpine skiers representing the Adirondack and Central Councils traveled to Hunt Hollow in Naples, NY to compete in the Kandahar Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5th.

The Championship is open to racers ages 11 and 12, and also fields U14 skiers, ages 13 and 14.

Representing the Polar Bears in the U12 race were Thomas Levi, Alexis Heath and Karleigh Hollister.

Alpine Polar Bears named to Kandahar Championship Team

It was a busy three days at McCauley Mountain as the Polar Bear Ski Club hosted the Kandahar Festival Ski Race on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday February 26, 27 and 28th.

The weekend began with a training day on Friday followed by a Komri Race on Saturday and a Giant Slalom (GS) race on Sunday. Race winners were determined by the overall results of the two competitions.

Medals were awarded to the top 10 male and female finishers in each age category: 10 and under (U10), 11 to 12 (U12) and 13 to 14 (U14). Continue reading →

Inlet votes to support Legion Post’s veterans memorial project

The Town of Inlet Board voted unanimously in favor of a proposal by Inlet’s Leonard Mick Roberts American Legion Post #1402 to redevelop the war/veteran’s memorial in front of Inlet Town Hall.

The vote was taken during the Board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 9th.

Legion Commander Jerry Dupuis presented the preliminary design concept drawn by local architect Jeanne Whyte, whose service was retained by the Post. Continue reading →
