Old Forge: New & traditional events fill Memorial Day Weekend

The streets of Old Forge were flooded with activity during the inaugural Red, White and Blue “Spring Into Summer” family festival held over Memorial Day Weekend.

Visitors and residents enjoyed a long list of family-friendly activities on Saturday and Sunday including a festival at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street complete with a bounce house, games, and a petting zoo; a ventriliquist act at VIEW, sidewalk chalk drawings, book signings, a fishing derby, and in-store specials.

Sunday’s activities were topped off by an evening lakefront concert by the Fulton Chain Gang and a fireworks display.

Monday was reserved for the traditional observance of fallen veterans which included a Memorial Day parade down Main Street to Riverview Cemetery where a remembrance ceremony was held, featuring guest speaker Major General Russell J. Czerw. Refreshments followed at the Old Forge Fire Hall.
