VIEW: Artist Ingrid Van Slyke to lead two-day pastel workshop

Pastel artist Ingrid Van Slyke of Lake Placid and Big Moose will lead a two-day workshop, Exploring Pastels from Beginning to End, at VIEW on Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Van Slyke’s pastel paintings have been juried into numerous national pastel exhibitions, including the Northeast National Pastel Exhibition at VIEW. Continue reading

Library to host Poetry/Illustration event, March 17

The awards ceremony and opening reception for the Old Forge Library’s Poetry and Illustration Exhibit will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

According to Library Director Isabella Worthen, there were 129 illustration and 178 poetry entries received from Herkimer, Oneida and Madison Counties and the Town of Inlet.

Winners and honorable mentions who entered work following the theme, Mountains and Roots, will be announced by Emcee Michael Cunningham. All entries will remain on display in the library wing through May 16.

Saving Energy & Money in the Home: Herkimer Cty. workshop set March 11

Cornell Cooperative Exten-sion (CCE) of Herkimer County will be a sponsoring FREE workshop on saving energy and money in the home on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Robert Moore to lead View silver workshop

Robert Moore will instruct students on how to make a silver ring in a jewelry making workshop at View, the arts center in Old Forge. During the six-week class, participants will learn basic fundamental techniques including sawing, texturing, soldering, and stone setting as well as safety and related studio procedures.

Classes will be held on Mondays from September 23 through October 28th.

Moore learned to make jewelry years ago at a View workshop. The course is appropriate for beginners or more seasoned jewelry makers.

Old Forge Library plans annual Poetry & Illustration workshops

Poetry and Illustration Workshops with an instructional element will be offered to students in grades K-12 and adults prior to the Old Forge Library’s annual Poetry and Illustration Contest deadline of March 1.

This year’s contest theme is, Mountains and Valleys, and is open to residents of Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida counties as well as the town of Inlet. Continue reading

Old Forge: Two personal growth workshops slated

Gary Gemmill, Ph.D. and Linda Valette will lead two upcoming personal growth workshops, Jump Starting Your Life: The Process of Transforming the Self.

The weekend-long workshops will assist participants in creating a better understanding of their inner selves so they can relate better in their personal and professional relationships.

The program will draw from the techniques outlined in the book, View from the Cosmic Mirror: Reflections of the Self in Every Day Life, which was co-authored by Gemmill and fellow psychologist, George Krauss, Ph.D.

The book examines how the perceptions of others affects how we see and treat others—and how others see and treat us. Continue reading
