Webb Police Department reports recent activity

The Town of Webb Police Department has reported the following recent law enforcement activity.

• A 26-year-old Old Forge man was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd, and Refusal to Submit to Breath Screening Test following an incident that occurred on Friday, October 9 at 10:12 p.m.

According to the report, an investigation into a one-car property damage accident on NYS Route 28 resulted in the arrest of the defendant for the above charges.

Investigation revealed that the defendant was intoxicated at the time of the accident and his license suspended out of the City of Rome for failure to answer a summons.

He was issued appearance tickets returnable to Town of Webb Court at a later date.

Old Forge Fire Dept. and Police educate Webb students on fire prevention, safety

Old Forge Fire Chief Charlie Bogardus, volunteer firefighter Larry Ventura Town of Webb Patrolman Cody Luebbert visited Town of Webb school students in grades kindergarten through fifth on Thursday, October 15 as part of National Fire Prevention Week.

Chief Bogardus talked to the children about the dangers of handling matches and cigarette lighters, the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and what to do in case of a fire emergency, specifically how to dial 911. Continue reading →

Retired State Trooper doing audit of Webb Police Dept.

Town of Webb Police Commissioner Theodore Riehle announced on October 16, that an operational audit is being done on the Town of Webb Police Department by Joseph Loszynski, a retired Deputy Superintendent, formerly in charge of the New York State Police’s Internal Affairs division.

Loszynski is looking at operations of the department including policies and procedures, and will be advising the Town as to corrective measures that need to be taken.

Former Webb Police K-9 Champ, passes away

Champ, a 12-year-old Belgian Malinois that served as Police K-9 with the Town of Webb Police Department from 2005 to 2011, died on July 25, 2014 following surgery to repair a ruptured tumor.Champ

Champ, trained to detect narcotics, and his handler Officer Daryl R. Ortlieb, worked as a team to net over 200 drug arrests in the Town of Webb, some of which were felonies that resulted in the violators being committed to state prison.

“Champ loved his work and was a rare one-of-a-kind breed that had a unique spirit far beyond the average K-9,” said former Webb Police Chief Robert Dibble.

Following retirement as a K-9, Dibble said Champ spent quality time at home with the Ortlieb family, Daryl, Amy and their son Daniel.
