Ad’k National Exhibition of American Watercolors opening on August 8th

The 33rd annual Adirondacks Exhibition of American Watercolors at VIEW will open Friday, August 8, featuring the work of over 70 artists who come from all across the continental United States and Canada.

An opening reception, free of charge and open to the public will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and will include live music and hors d’oeuvres. Continue reading

Lloyd Schafer watercolor raffle to benefit the Old Forge Library

Linda and Sarah Cohen of Old Forge have donated an original Lloyd Schafer watercolor to the Old Forge Library for a fundraising raffle.

The painting is on display in the library wing. Chances are available at the library and are $20 each. Only 100 tickets will be sold.

The drawing will take place when all of the tickets are sold.

Schafer was a well known area artist who painted and sold hundreds of watercolor paintings and art works.

Following his retirement as a design engineer at Remington Arms of Ilion, he opened an art studio at Singing Waters outside of Old Forge.

Schafer, who passed away in 2008, was also known for contributing his talent to benefit community projects and organizations.

For many years he donated his paintings for raffles to benefit the library. He was also an active member of the Arts Guild of Old Forge.

30th Adirondacks National Watercolor Exhibit to open Aug. 13

The 30th Annual Adirondacks National Exhi-bition of American Watercolors will be on display at View, the new arts center in Old Forge, from August 13 through October 2.

This highly competitive exhibition features the aqua media works on paper from many of the best living painters in North America.

It has been ranked one of the ten best competitive watercolor exhibitions in the country by The Artists magazine, and has received numerous endorsements and accolades.

There will be an opening reception and preview on Friday, August 12, which will be free to members and exhibiting artists. Admission is $10 for non-members. Continue reading
