Youth nordic ski Polar Bears compete in Bill Koch Festival

The Polar Bear Nordic Youth Team traveled to New Hampshire on Friday, March 4 to attend the biggest race of the season, the New England Bill Koch Festival, that took place on March 5 and 6th.

Coach Janine Phaneuf said the 2016 Festival was held with good snow cover and mostly sunny skies with the majestic White Mountains adding their grandeur and magic above the fields and forested trails of Great Glen trails in Pinkham Notch, NH.  Continue reading

Polar Bears say thank you

The Polar Bear Ski Club hosted the 2016 Kandahar Festival ski races at McCauley Mountain on February 27 and 28th. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this such a huge success.

The Junior Polar Bear Alpine Team participated in an Adirondack Council Giant Slalom Race at Snow Ridge on Saturday, January 30th.

The results of the race are as follows:

Nordic Polar Bear Youth Team team enjoys great racing success

IMG_3551Coach Janine Phaneuf’s Polar Bear Nordic Youth Team began its busy racing season on Sunday, January 17 with a Paintball Biathlon at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid.

The young racers showed great results in the ski and shoot event.

In the Girls Ages 9 to 10 group the results were: 2nd – Jenny Rundell hitting 5 of 10 targets; 3rd – Kerissa Dunn hitting 3/10; 3rd – Alivia  Hopsicker hitting 2/10, and 6th – Macy Capron hitting 3/10. Continue reading

Nordic Girls: Old Forge varsity team wins Queensbury Invitational

The Queensbury Nordic Invitational was held on Saturday, January 16 at the Gore Mountain Ski Bowl in North Creek, with the Old Forge boys and girls skiers racing impressively.

The competition was also a Junior Nationals qualifier for U18 and U16 boys and girls.

The Old Forge Girls Varsity Team won their 4.5K team event, powering to first with 13 points.

Queensbury finished second with 19 points, and Shenen-dehowa came in third with 41.  Continue reading

Polar Bear Club hosts Biathlon events at McCauley Mountain

The Polar Bear Biathlon Club hosted two events at McCauley Mountain over the weekend of June 21 and 22nd. The Saturday event was a Junior Development Clinic directed by Art Stegen, a former U.S. Biathlon coach and athlete and Sean Halligan, a National Guard biathlete who competed under Coach Stegen, who instructed seven athletes on the techniques of shooting and racing.

Representing the Polar Bear Ski Club were Henry Uzdavinis, Megan Greene, Tyler Rudolph and Connor Hrynuk.
