Reception set August 7th for library’s Carolynn McCann photography exhibit

Adirondack Landscape and Fine Art Photography, a solo exhibit featuring the work of award-winning artist Carolynn McCann, is currently on display at the Old Forge Library.

An Opening Exhibit Reception will be held on Friday, August 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. with acoustic music by Dan Vellone.

The public is invited to stop by for light refreshments, meet and visit with the artist and view her beautiful work.  Continue reading

Irish Balladeer to perform at the Old Forge Library on August 11

Colleen Cleveland will perform a musical program, From Ireland to the Adirod-acks: 5 Generations of Songs and Ballads, at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Colleen is a descendant of Scottish and Irish settlers to the Brant Lake area of the Adirondacks. Her grandmother, Sara Cleveland, was a nationally recognized ballad singer in the 1960s. Colleen grew up going to festivals and learning the songs in the oral tradition.  Continue reading

Old Forge Library to host annual Ad’k Storytelling & Music Fest

The Old Forge Library’s Adirondack Storytelling and Music Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 26 from 12 to 2 p.m. under the tent on the Forge Motel Knoll.

Award-winning musician, storyteller and author Joe Bruchac will host the event and will be joined by his son Jesse Bruchac, folksinger/songwriter Peggy Lynn and Adirondack Storyteller Bill Smith. Continue reading

Old Forge Library to host jazz duo

Ellen Schwartz and Roger Bruno of the duo, Too Human, will  perform jazz standards from the Great American Songbook at the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Described as entertaining, full of energy and uplifting, these composer/songwriters were once on the staff of Warner/Chappell Music in Los Angeles where they wrote songs for recording artists that included Nancy Wilson, Cher, and Pat Benatar before returning to their roots in New York state.

The concert is free and open to the public, and funded by New York State Council on the Arts: the Presenting Program with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.

Old Forge Library: Bluegrass band to perform at gazebo on July 24th

Old Forge Library invites all to enjoy live music on the library grounds on Friday, July 24 featuring bluegrass band, Cincinnati Creek.

Cincinnati Creek features seasoned musicians who have performed in New York state for many years.

In 2008, Lori Thompson, Chris Pepe, and Gary Dygert formed this new configuration, along with Cathy Martin, to carry on their  tradition of great music.

Based in the Adirondack foothills, they took their name from the creek that runs through the area.  Continue reading

Writers Workshop: Register now at Old Forge Library

The Summer Writer’s Workshops at the Old Forge Library will feature four-week sessions for both adults and young adults. The sessions will be held on  consecutive Wednesdays from July 15 through August 5. Young adults will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and adults will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The director of the workshops is Katharyn Howd Machan, a professor of writing at Ithaca College with additional active roles in the Women’s Studies Program and the Gerontology Institute.   Continue reading
