Sailors compete in 5th weekend of Fourth Lake racing

The Central Adirondack Sailing Association (CASA)  held its fifth weekend of races of the 2013 season on Fourth Lake on Saturday, July 27th.

Due to very windy conditions, the races were moved to the southwest end of the lake, but the sailors still struggled with the gusty winds throughout both races.

Mark Steigerwald and John Jeffery continued with their consistently strong results capturing two second place finishes for the day.

Heavy winds challenge 4th Lake sailing racers

The Central Adirondack Sailing Association held its third weekend of races of the 2013 season on Fourth Lake on July 20th.

While it was a beautiful day, the sailors had to battle heavy winds to keep their boats upright and progressing around the course.

A number of the boats had equipment failures and only six of the eight boats completed all three races.

Sail vessels race despite light air conditions

The Central Adirondack Sailing Association held its second weekend of races of the 2013 season on Fourth Lake on July 13th.

The sailors enjoyed relatively good winds the first race but were challenged to finish the second race due to the winds dying down to almost nothing.

This type of race is affectionately known to sailors as a “drifter.”

Tom B. McCabe with daughter Carey Lorraine and granddaughter Meg Lorraine took advantage of the light winds and finished first in both races. Continue reading

July 6 2013 sailing picThe Central Adirondack Sailing Association kicked off the 2013 season with sailboat races on Fourth Lake on Saturday, July 6th. The sailors enjoyed the first dry weather day of the week with medium winds and sunny skies.

The Wilsey and Hartsig boat had the best results of the day with a first and second place finish in the two races. The Steigerwald and Jeffries boat also did very well with a first and third place finish. Continue reading
