Pontoon Boat Raffle launched by Kinderwood

The board of the Kinderwood Program is currently selling tickets for the raffle of a 2014 Bennington 18SL pontoon boat with 50 hp motor as fundraiser for the local preschool program. The boat, valued at $19,000 has been provided by Rivett’s Marine.

Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased at area retailers, by contacting Head Teacher Diane Heroux at (315) 369-6061, or by email at: kinderwood62@yahoo.com. Only 999 tickets will be sold. Checks payable to “Kinderwood Program, Ltd., can be mailed to: P.O. Box 255, Old Forge, NY 13420.

The winning ticket will be drawn at the Kinderwood Golf Tournament on Monday, August 4th.

Kinderwood registration set for June 3rd

Kinderwood registration for the 2014-2015 school year will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at View, the arts center in Old Forge, located at 3273 State Rte. 28.

The preschool program is open to children ages three and four years old.

A child must turn three years old by November 30, 2014 to be eligible.  Continue reading →

Snowmaker’s Ball: Record crowd supports Kinderwood

A record-sized crowd gathered at McCauley Mountain on Saturday, March 29 for the Snowmaker’s Ball, an annual fund-raising event that supports the Kinderwood Preschool Program.

Close to 100 people enjoyed dinner, dancing to tunes spun by DJ Colin Clark, and raffles.

“This year personified exactly what the Snowmaker’s Ball is about…having a great time for a great cause. It’s a come-as-you-are event, with some people coming straight from the slopes wearing their ski attire to others arriving in more formal wear. Kinderwood preschoolers get ready for the holidays

The Kinderwood Pre-school Program’s class of three year olds celebrated the holidays with a Christmas party on Wednesday, December 17 in the Kinderwood room at View.

These students, along with the four-year-old class, will be taking a two-week break for Christmas, but will return for instruction in January.

As the fall session comes to a close, the Kinderwood Board of Directors asks that the community keep the preschool program in mind as they consider their end of the year charitable donations.

The equipment was installed last week by Bears Playgrounds, an independent company based in Lima, NY that builds nature-inspired playgrounds.

Constructed of white cedar, with some composite wood in the interior, the equipment fits within the green footprint of View, said Kinderwood Head Teacher Diane Heroux.

The playground was made possible by grants and various fundraising events, including the annual Kinderwood Classic Golf Tournament.

A graduation ceremony for the four year old students enrolled in the  Kinderwood Preschool Class of 2013 was held at Gould Hall at View on Saturday, June 1.

Montessori principles incorporated in Kinderwood preschool program

Montessori-trained Amy Bartel is working with Kinderwood Director Diane Heroux to bring the three- and four-year-old enrollees more Montessori in their education.

Kinderwood has always had a modified Montessori curriculum, which is child-driven, according to Heroux. With founder Mirnie Kashiwa’s background, the curriculum has always had a strong art component as well.  Continue reading →
