Pontoon Boat Raffle launched by Kinderwood

The board of the Kinderwood Program is currently selling tickets for the raffle of a 2014 Bennington 18SL pontoon boat with 50 hp motor as fundraiser for the local preschool program. The boat, valued at $19,000 has been provided by Rivett’s Marine.

Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased at area retailers, by contacting Head Teacher Diane Heroux at (315) 369-6061, or by email at: kinderwood62@yahoo.com. Only 999 tickets will be sold. Checks payable to “Kinderwood Program, Ltd., can be mailed to: P.O. Box 255, Old Forge, NY 13420.

The winning ticket will be drawn at the Kinderwood Golf Tournament on Monday, August 4th.

Kinderwood registration set for June 3rd

Kinderwood registration for the 2014-2015 school year will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at View, the arts center in Old Forge, located at 3273 State Rte. 28.

The preschool program is open to children ages three and four years old.

A child must turn three years old by November 30, 2014 to be eligible.  Continue reading

A graduation ceremony for the four year old students enrolled in the  Kinderwood Preschool Class of 2013 was held at Gould Hall at View on Saturday, June 1.

A dozen students received their Bachelor of Preschool Arts degrees from head teacher Diane Heroux in front of an audience of parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

Among those in attendance was Kinderwood founder Miriam Kashiwa who has not missed a graduation in the preschool’s 44 years.

A reception honoring the graduates followed the ceremony.

Montessori principles incorporated in Kinderwood preschool program

Montessori-trained Amy Bartel is working with Kinderwood Director Diane Heroux to bring the three- and four-year-old enrollees more Montessori in their education.

Kinderwood has always had a modified Montessori curriculum, which is child-driven, according to Heroux. With founder Mirnie Kashiwa’s background, the curriculum has always had a strong art component as well.  Continue reading
