State policies create local budget challenges

Dear Inlet Taxpayers:

I am sure that many of you are wondering why there was a substantial increase on your recent school tax bill, especially in light of the 2011 legislation that imposed the two percent tax levy limit on public school budgets. (This is slightly misleading because according to the Property Tax Cap Formula for the 2014-2015 school year, the Inlet Common School was only allowed a tax increase of 1.46 percent or about $19,000.) Library hosting Author’s Day event, Nov. 12th

Town of Webb and Inlet Common School students, home schooled children and members of the community are invited to the Old Forge Library on Tuesday, November 12 for a program with author Bruce Hiscock.

Activities will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. including the first showing of 64 Libri Foundation books. The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization which donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public libraries in the U.S. through its Books for Children program.

Hiscock is a self-trained artist and writer who has written and illustrated 12 children’s books. His program will include discussion on his books, writing, drawing, and nature. Hiscock will welcome questions from the students and public.

Inlet Common School receives state grant

The Inlet Common School recently received a bullet aid grant in the amount of $17,500 that was secured by NY State Senator Hugh T. Farley, (R) 49th Senate District.100_1180

“The staff, students, and community members are grateful for this assistance. It will certainly help us maintain our mission to build an academic and social foundation in our children that will allow them the opportunity to reach their full potential so they can succeed as 21st century citizens,” said Inlet School Superintendent Chris Holt.

The students sent Senator Farley a thank you note along with a photo of themselves and the school staff.
