Friends of the Old Forge Library gather for annual luncheon

The Friends of the Old Forge Library hosted their annual luncheon at North Woods Inn on Monday, January 23. Among the 30 people in attendance were library appreciators and staff, Library Director Izzie Worthen, and members of the Board of Trustees.

The three course luncheon was enjoyed by everyone. Chairperson of the event was Margo Boylan.

Friends of Library distribute books to pre-school children

Hazel Dellavia, of the Friends of the Old Forge Library, met with Kinderwood Preschool Program students on Monday, December 12 and presented each of them with the book, “Reading Right from the Start” by Toni S. Bickart as a holiday gift.

The Friends organization is hoping to make the book available to all families in the area who have children ages five and under.

Musical program slated for Old Forge Library

The Old Forge Library will host a program, From Ireland to the Adirondacks: Five Generations of Songs and Ballads From the Cleveland Family, on Tuesday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m.

A descendant of Scottish and Irish settlers to the Brant Lake area of the Adirondacks, Colleen Cleveland will perform pieces from her family’s musical repertoire of over 400 songs, as well as stories and ancient ballads from the old country.

This program is free and open to the public and is sponsored by The Friends of the Old Forge Library.

‘The Friends’ award prizes at annual Library Bash

The Old Forge Library Bash annual fundraiser, held Sunday, August 14, drew close to 90 people who enjoyed a variety of hors d’oeuvres and wines that were available for tasting.

The event was organized and hosted by the Friends of the Library.

“A lot of folks showed up and we were very pleased,” said Hazel Dellavia, President of the Friends of the Library.

The big winner of the day was Joni Dyer of Eagle Bay who took home the hand-crocheted Throw by Louisette Lecours, the Hand Painted Wooden Bowls by fellow artist Linda Marcy, and the gift certificate to Sister’s Bistro.

There were additional winners of door prizes.

William Mudge won “Pick the Most Expensive Wine Contest.”

Steven Wick of Old Forge won “Guess the Number of Corks in the Jar Contest”. His guess of 427 was the closest to the 441 corks in the jar.

Gary Lee of Inlet took home the Floral Centerpiece with the Dragonfly Scarf from Mountain Greenery as the last door prize of the day.

Raffle winners who were not present may pick up their prizes at the Old Forge Library during regular library hours or call the library at (315) 369-6008 to arrange for pick-up.
