TRX classes available for Seniors

TRX classes for seniors are currently being offered at the Park Avenue Building gym in on Mondays and Fridays. Classes are held from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Certified instructor Marie Birtle leads the low impact workouts tailored to improve strength and balance. Classes are open to men and women.

View workshop wing: Cohen family issues matching funds challenge

View, the new arts center in Old Forge, has announced the receipt of a generous gift from the Bob and Ellie Cohen family.

The Cohen family has graciously stepped forward with a pledge, and a challenge, to match donated funds to insure that the workshop wing of View will be known as the “Meyda Tiffany & Lighting Creative Arts Wing.”

Any and all funds donated toward the naming of the wing will be matched three-to-one by the Cohen family in an attempt to reach the $500,000 goal.

The wing houses a large pottery studio with electric and gas kilns, a glazing booth, clay recycling and hand building areas; a multi-purpose workshop for painting, jewelry, wood working and children’s classes; as well as a teaching kitchen. Continue reading

Mountainman Hosting Instructional Series

Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company on Rt. 28 in Old Forge will host a series of weekly outdoor instructional events.

On Mondays, free guided two-hour mountain bike trips will be available at 6 p.m.; and on Tuesdays, free kayak demos will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Moose River Outpost.

Free whitewater paddling instructions will be available on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. until dark.

On Saturdays from 7 to 9 a.m., ACA kayak instructor and certified yoga instructor Nanette Shovea-Burke will conduct a free yoga and paddling session on the deck overlooking the Moose River.

Also from 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturdays, a free guided group road bike ride around the Fulton Chain of Lakes will be available.

Old Forge Ballet Company: Registration Under Way for Summer Dance Programs

Registration for summer session dance classes is now underway at The New Conservatory for the months of July and August.

The New Conservatory, the official school of The Old Forge Ballet Company, Inc., is under the direction of Sue Ann Lorenz-Wallace.

Summer classes run until August 30. Weekend, afternoon, and evening classes are available.

The Conservatory offers classical ballet training of the highest quality for adults and children, pointe work, repertoire, pre-ballet, modern dance workshops, ballroom and musical theatre, tap and jazz classes for male and female students ages three to adult.

Private and coaching classes are available. Drop-ins welcome. Tuition is $5 per hour for children and $8 per hour for adults.

The New Conservatory director and staff of teachers have been trained and tested to teach the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet. The Cecchetti Method of ballet training is a progressive system of training dancers from a pre-ballet beginning level to a professional level.
