Candy Land: Thendara’s Holiday Treat

Candy Land at the historic Thendara Town Hall is just one of the features of An Adirondack Christmas on Main Street that can be enjoyed by families.

Located a short walking distance from the Thendara Train Station, Candy Land is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 29, 30 and December 1, and on Saturday, December 7. 0008-DSC04339

Visitors are invited to drop by and enjoy the many Christmas decorations, games, crafts, hot chocolate and treats.

Children’s book signings to feature authors Phinney, Best, and the VanRipers

Children’s Book Signings have been scheduled locally to coincide with the holiday season’s Christmas on Main Street events in Old Forge and Inlet.

Nancy Pulling Best will sign copies of her children’s book, Anna the Spider, at the Old Forge Hardware on Friday, November 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and The Adirondack Reader in Inlet from 2 to 4 p.m.

Best, a Thendara native and Town of Webb School graduate, enlisted the artistic talents of Mat Capron, also a Webb graduate, in illustrating the book. Continue reading

Christmas on Main Street: Inlet to raffle holiday baskets December 1st

Inlet will again be holding a Holiday Basket Raffle during its Adirondack Christmas on Main Street event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 29, 30 and December 1.

Stop by the Inlet Information Office when you get to town for a list of shops that will be open. At the end of day bring your receipts from purchases made at those businesses and receive a raffle ticket for every $10 spent to qualify to win a Holiday Basket.  Continue reading

Dress your dog for Inlet’s Holiday Parade

The annual Holiday Dog Parade is a crowd-pleasing component of Inlet’s Adirondack Christmas on Main Street event. The parade will be held on Saturday, November 30 beginning at 4 p.m. from the parking lot near the Church of the Lakes.

Dress your pooch in its holiday best and parade it through town to the Inlet Town Hall. Every canine participant will receive a treat, compliments of the Adirondack Reader.

As an added attraction, Dave Scranton of Adirondack Images Photography will be taking professional photos of pets in their holiday costumes from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in front of the fireplace at Screamen Eagle Pizza.  Continue reading

Old Forge Library adds book titles to wish list

The Old Forge Library has an Evergreen Tree Wish List of books it would like to add to its collection this holiday season.

Members of the community are invited to make a donation to the library by choosing a title from the wish list.

A holiday ornament and the name of the book selection can be added to the Evergreen Tree as a memorial or honorary gift in someone’s name.

The wish list contains both children and adult books, in addition to books for the library’s Adirondack Collection.

The Evergreen Tree will be on display in the main room of the library  throughout December.

Old Forge: Ad’k Christmas on Main Street promises two fun holiday weekends

Old Forge will be bustling with Christmas activities for the whole family to enjoy over the weekends of November 29, 30 and December 1 and December 6, 7, and 8 during the annual Adirondack Christmas on Main Street celebration.

The event kicks off on Friday, November 29 with most activities set for Saturday as well.

Area shops will open their doors at 10 a.m. and the Thendara Town Hall will host Candy Land, with holiday crafts, treats and decorations, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Continue reading

Inlet plans bounty of events for Christmas on Main Street

The Town of Inlet invites all to enjoy the festivities planned for its Adirondack Christmas on Main Street celebration on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 29, 30, and December 1.

Stop by the Inlet Information Office when you get to town for a list of shops that will be open.

While you are there, you can drop off your letters to Santa.

At the end of day bring your receipts from purchases made at Inlet businesses and receive a raffle ticket for every $10 spent to qualify to win a Holiday Basket.  Continue reading
