Raffle of snowmobile artwork to benefit View

Bill Brooker, owner of Brooker’s True Value Lumber and Hardware in Old Forge, has donated a print of a snowmobile by nationally known watercolor artist JC Parker for a fundraising raffle for View, the new arts center in Old Forge.

The framed print is currently on display at View where it will be raffled at the end of the snowmobile season.

Tickets can be purchased at View for $1 each or six for $5.

They will also available for sale throughout the day at the Bazaar.

Proceeds of the raffle will benefit the general operating fund of View.

Framed Print Prize: Raffle tickets available at Stems & Steins Fest

Bill Brooker, owner of Brooker’s True Value Lumber and Hardware in Old Forge, has donated a guideboat print by nationally-known watercolor artist JC Parker for a fundraising raffle for View, the new arts center in Old Forge.

The framed print will be on display at this weekend’s Stems & Steins Festival at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street. Tickets will be available for sale during the event for $1 each or six for $5.

Residence Goose Season makes sense for hunters, everyone else

Residence goose season opens September 1 and runs through Septem-ber 25. With a take limit of eight per day, the season is designed to thin the non-migratory geese in New York state.

In order to participate, you must have a valid New York State hunting license, Federal Duck stamp, HIP (Harvest Information) number and use non-toxic shot in your shotgun.

When hunting over water you are allowed to shoot migratory waterfowl as long as there aren’t buildings within 500 feet of where you are aiming.

That means you can be on a bank or dock and shoot out over the water even though there are houses within 500 feet of you.

You cannot shoot them from a vessel that is under motor power, however once the boat has stopped from the power of the motor, you can.

You can paddle and be moving to shoot. Continue reading
