Adirondack League Club Exhibit: Goodsell Museum Open House set Nov. 30th

The Trustees of the Town of Webb Historical Association invites members and the public to their annual Holiday Open House that will be held Sunday, November 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Goodsell Museum.

The Open House will mark the official opening of the featured exhibit, “100,000 Acres of Paradise: The Early History of the Adirondack League Club.”

The exhibit will offer a look into the ALC: its beginnings in 1890 and the club’s commitment to woodland preservation and animal conservation that changed NY State laws and practices. Continue reading →

The Adirondack League Club: Combs Brook Fish Hatchery opens in 1895

Fishing has always been one of the major attractions of the Adirondacks, and to ensure visitors had an ample supply of fish, New York State and private groups began building fish hatcheries in the late 19th century.

In 1895, the Adirondack League Club built a fish hatchery on Combs Brook, near the south branch of the Moose River, to stock the lakes and streams on their preserve.

The hatchery bought fish eggs and raised them to large fry, which had a better chance of survival when released.  Continue reading →
