Services planned for William C. Hinman, 71

William Clarence Hinman, 71, of New Hartford, NY died unexpectedly on April 11, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born in Utica on February 20, 1945, a son of the late William H. and Margaret P. Hinman and was a 1963 graduate of Chadwicks Union Free School. Bill furthered his education at SUNY Delhi, graduating in 1965.

He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, Company C, First Battalion,108th Infantry from 1965 to1971 and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant E6.

On July 8, 1975, Bill and Wanda L. Walker were united in marriage in the Willowvale Methodist Church. Continue reading →

All invited to Mexico mission trip presentation, Sunday, April 17

Mexico Groupby Pastor Phil Huber

Inlet Community Church will host a celebration of their spring break mission trip to Mexico on Sunday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to hear group members share their experiences and to see slides of our trip to Mexico on March 19 through 26th.

We were there to help build an orphanage—an orphanage that is being built completely through volunteer labor and donations.  Continue reading →

Webb instrumental students perform at state solo music festival

20160409_165428Twenty-three Town of Webb School band students traveled to Carthage High School to participate in the New York State School Music Association Solo Festival (NYSSMA) on Saturday, April 9th.

Partcipating students had to memorize 3 to 15 major scales, prepare a solo, and then complete sight reading for an adjudicator. Continue reading →

Services set for Patricia B. Buehler, 72

Patricia (Bathke) Buehler, 72, of Otter Lake, wife of Donald F. passed away suddenly at her residence on Friday, April 8, 2016.

Affectionately known as Pat, she was born in Utica, on February 2, 1944, a daughter of George and Dorothy White Bathke. She grew up in Deer-field, graduating from Whites-boro High School, with the Class of 1964. Thereafter for several years she was employed as a radio assembler at General Electric of Utica.   Continue reading →

Laura Steck, Jonathan Fairbrother wed

image1Laura Steck and Jonathan Fairbrother were married on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in an intimate ceremony at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC.

Laura is the daughter of Michael and JoAnne Steck of Tonawanda, NY. Jonathan is the son of Gary and Diana Fairbrother of Old Forge, NY.

The maid of honor was Mary Judd, niece of the bride and the best woman was Joyce Tencza, longtime friend of the groom. The ceremony was officiated by Jacquelyn E. Murad of New York Mills, NY.

The couple resides in Charlotte, NC with their two dogs, Hadley and Sophie.

One final blast of winter before spring finally kicks in

It was mid-April of 1976 and Limekiln Lake was almost visible again to my ten-year old inquisitive eyes. The last remaining piece of bluish grey ice drifted out in the center of the lake.

Last minute tax tips before arrival of IRS filing deadline

Filing Deadlines:

In order to meet the filing deadline for tax year 2015, income tax returns or extensions must be properly transmitted and acknowledged or addressed, mailed and postmarked by Monday, April 18, 2016.

The later filing date is due to the Washington D.C.

Emancipation Day holiday being observed on April 15 instead of April 16, 2016, Tax Day is on the following Monday.   Continue reading →
