On Tuesday, February 9th, the entire Senior Class of the Town of Webb UFSD attended the Oneida-Herkimer BOCES Job Fair as part of their English 12 speech curriculum.
These students have been working on interview skills, including how to shake hands, speak, dress, and create a resume.

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks held its 16th Annual Kiwanis Winter Sports Challenge during Old Forge Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 6th.
Included in the event were the traditional fund-raising cross-country ski and snowshoe treks to raise funds for various Kiwanis children’s projects.
In addition, the Kiwanis Club, Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company and McCauley Mountain Ski Area jointly sponsored the 6th Annual McCauley Snowshoe Classic. Continue reading
The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) determined that proposed amendments to the 1996 Remsen – Lake Placid Travel Corridor Unit Management Plan/FSEIS (The 2016 Plan) conforms to the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan (APSLMP).
This determination was made after APA deliberated during its February board meeting.
The APA will now forward the conformance resolution to the Commissioners of the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Depart-ment of Transportation for final adoption. Continue reading

The Senior Health Activities and Recreation Program (SHARP) had a great first year. Before SHARP, the need for some type of program for the growing senior population had been talked about within the community for a long time.
After being elected as a Town of Webb Councilwoman, Mary Brophy-Moore began talking to the town board about the possibility of a program for seniors.
She understood the void first-hand having helped to care for her own aging parents in Old Forge. Continue reading

At a Writers’ Night held at Five Corners Café on Tuesday, February 2, local writer and co-creator of the event, Melissa Macdonald, started off the evening by reading the e.e. cummings poem, i carry your heart with me.
Prior to her recitation she explained why the poem is important to her. She said it described beautifully the love and devotion her friend Dan Tickner has for his wife Natalie. Continue reading
Devere L. “Dutch” Vandervort, 91, of Burnsville, MN, formerly of Old Forge, NY, San Diego, CA and Tomah, WI, passed away on February 1, 2016.
Dutch retired from Eastman Kodak after a distinguished career of 30-plus years.
He was an active and committed volunteer at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge. Most recently he sat on the By Laws Committee in 2010-11; many of his suggestions were implemented. He was a generous donor, making gifts to name the Vandervort Gallery and the Executive Director’s office in memory of his daughter Susan. Continue reading
