DEC: New snowmobile route between Raquette and Forked lakes

Snowmobilers traveling between Raquette Lake and Forked Lake in the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest must use a new route instead of the traditional route.

Snowmobiles can no longer travel on the Raquette Lake Canoe Carry Trail between Outlet Bay of Raquette Lake and North Point Road. Continue reading

Madison Rice named February’s Kiwanis Club Student of Month

IMG_2992****The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has announced that its Student of the Month for February is Madison Rice. Madison is the daughter of Sean and Debra Rice of Inlet and is a senior at Town of Webb Union Free School.

The Student of the Month is a program initiated by the Kiwanis Club, in cooperation with the Town of Webb School, that recognizes senior students.

Each month from September to April the school administrators select a Student of the Month who will receive $50 and with his/her parents are invited to a Kiwanis Recognition Event to make a brief presentation.

In May, the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee will select a Student of the Year who will receive $500.

The Town of Webb Police Benevolent Association (PBA) will partner with Central Adirondack Kiwanis in the Student of the Year award.

The selection criteria for the program includes community service, academics, athletic involvement, student need, and extra curricular activities.

Emily Croneiser graduates from Police academy

FullSizeRender-2Emily Croneiser graduated January 7, 2016 from the Zone Five Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy in Schenectady.

Achieving a grade point average of 98.9, she was ranked third in her class of 62 officers for academics.

Emily is currently employed with the SUNY Cobbleskill Police Department.

She is the daughter of Pete and Ann Croneiser of Old Forge.

Polar Bear Alpine Skiers compete in Woods Valley Ad’k Council race

Polar Bear Ski Club alpine skiers participated in Adirondack Council race competion at Woods Valley in Westernville on January 24th.

The youths are enthusiastic at having started their season, according to Andrea Hollister.

“We are excited to have new racers this year. Everyone is having fun and doing a great job,” she said.

New York state assoc. honors Raquette Lake board members

Liz Forsell and Elaine Pohl

Raquette Lake Union Free School District Board Members Liz Forsell and Elaine Pohl were recently awarded certificates of achievement from the New York State School Boards Association in recognition of their continuing efforts to expand their governance knowledge and skill.

Forsell, a 27-year board member, received the Mastery Award with 250 points and Pohl, a three-year member, received the Achievement Award with 75 points.

Certificates were presented by District Superintendent Richard Rose at the January 2016 board meeting.
