Webb police report recent law enforcement activity

The Town of Webb Police Department has reported the following recent law enforcement activity.

• A 45-year-old Thendara woman was chared with Aggravated Unlicesed Operation in the 2nd Degree following an incident that occurred on Wednesday, November 18th.

According to the report, the above named defendant was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while having a revoked driving privilege in New York state following a refusal to submit to a chemical test. She was released on an appearance ticket returnable at a later date in the Town of Webb Court.

Memorial services held for Reverend Frederick G. Reed, 86

Reed, FredThe Reverend Frederick G. Reed, 86, passed away November 3, 2015 at his home in Gloucester, VA.

He was born on September 11, 1929 in Old Forge, NY, son of Frank and Mary (Winifred) Reed.

He graduated from high school in 1947 and served in the Air Force from 1948 until 1952.

Reverend Reed graduated from Centre College of Ken-tucky in 1958 and Louisville Presbyterian Seminary in 1961 and was ordained a Presbyterian Minister.  Continue reading →

Dr. Joanne Maly to open new physical therapy office in Old Forge

Physical Therapist, Dr. Joanne Maly, has announced a new physical therapy office to be opened on December 1st at the Old Forge Fitness Center on North Street.

The location will offer out-patient physical therapy services directed toward those that may have had total joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, knee surgery, or other procedures, Maly said.

The office will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will allow patients to be treated locally.  Continue reading →

Otter Lake Echoes: A musical era in the Adirondack Mountains

The hills around Otter Lake were alive with the sound of music—even before Julie Andrews sang of them. In 1947 the New York State Music Camp opened its first summer season at the Otter Lake Hotel.

That building is now long gone, but a historical plaque marks the location on the roadside of Route 28.  Continue reading →

A creative mind can sometimes lead to mischievous behavior

My eight-year-old brain worked so much different than my brain does today. Back in 1974 it really wasn’t all about mischief, catastrophe, misconduct, and devilish behavior.

It was more about playfulness, misfortune, and inquisitiveness.

I often looked at my world and found a new use for a mundane tool or item that somehow resulted in near atrocity, sabotage, and mild injury. Continue reading →

We had the coldest morning so far this season with 15 degrees on November 23… but a major snow storm missed us again.

There were a lot of reds and yellows east of us on the weather map last night and blue over the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, so I’m sure they got a little.
