NY Central’s Adk. railroad: Goodsell taking book orders

The Goodsell Museum is now taking pre-orders for the new book, The New York Central in the Adirondacks, written by John M. Ham and Timothy R. Mayers.

The 250-page book tells the story of New York Central’s Adirondack Division and is a tribute to Dr. Webb’s Railroad.

The captions on the 400 photographs provide the narrative.  Continue reading

Flying Scot District Regatta held on Fourth Lake

The local Flying Scot Fleet, in conjunction with Central Adirondack Sailing Association hosted the NY Lakes District Annual Flying Scot Championship Regatta on Fourth Lake on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and16.

Eighteen Flying Scots participated with visitors from Skaneateles, Piseco and Saratoga Lakes.

All the sailors enjoyed the experience of racing with eighteen boats in five races over two days. Continue reading

Raquette Lake Fire Department says thank you

The Raquette Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fundraising auction on Saturday, August 8 raised $16,860.

Awesome thanks to the people, businesses and organizations that donated all of the items that were auctioned and sold.

Herkimer County making Farmers’ Market coupons available to seniors

A limited number of Farmers’ Market coupons are still available for Herkimer County seniors.

These coupon booklets have a value of $20 and may be used to purchase produce at any participating Farmers Market.

To qualify, you must be over the age of 60, reside in Herkimer County, and have an income of $1,815 per month or less; $2,456 per month for two-person household.   Continue reading

Swick named Kiwanis guest speaker for Sept. 4

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks will hold a special luncheon meeting at Van Auken’s Inne in Thendara on Friday, September 4 at noon.

Special guest will be John Swick, Principal at Town of Webb School, who will discuss his experience building an orphanage in Mexico. Continue reading

Webb Police Dept. reports recent law enforcement activity

The Town of Webb Police Department has reported the following recent law enforcement activity.

A 60-year-old New Hartford, NY man was charged with two counts of Petit Larceny (Class A misdemeanor) on Tuesday, August 18 at 1:36 a.m.

According to the report, Town of Webb Police Department arrested the man on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Webb Court for two counts of petit larceny.

The arrest warrant was issued resulting from an investigation into larcenies that occurred on May 21, 2015 in Town of Webb. Continue reading

Carolyn Belknap was honored recently with the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association (FCLA) Service Award for 2015, which was presented to her by Tom McCabe.

The award is given to a director that has made a significant contribution to FCLA.

Carolyn has been a member of FCLA for many years and joined the Board of Directors in 2010.  Continue reading
