Library to host 2-1-1 info program

An informational program on the new 2-1-1 call service that is available to residents of Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Old Forge Library.

Residents are able to use a simple three-digit phone number—2-1-1—to access the latest information about health and human service needs.

Where the 9-1-1 number is for reporting emergencies, 2-1-1 is intended to connect citizens with useful services.  Continue reading

Great Ad’k Garage Sale set for Memorial Day Weekend

The Great Adirondack Garage Sale will be held Memorial Day Weekend, Friday through Sunday, May 22 to 24, with sales taking place from Thendara through Old Forge and Eagle Bay, into Big Moose Lake, through Inlet, Raquette Lake and Blue Mountain Lake, Long Lake and Indian Lake.

Each town will be putting together a map listing locations of sales in their area and share the maps with the other participating towns. Continue reading

Area events are made possible and successful through volunteer efforts

To the Editor:

Well, it looks as if another season is about to take the checkered flag. Not sure how everyone did this winter business-wise, but in terms of winter sports, it seemed that it was pretty good…which leads me to the reason for this article.

I feel that the residents of the Town of Webb and Inlet are very fortunate. We have many great things going on in our communities. I am understanding of those who aren’t directly related to or care to participate in some of those things that are taking place. That’s okay.  Continue reading

Larry Hogan passes away

Word has been received of the death of Larry Hogan, a former Then-dara resident and longtime operator of Thendara Chiropractic.

According to Larry’s son John, he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29 in Deary, ID following a battle with cancer.

Service arrangements were not available at press time but will appear in next week’s issue.

Town of Webb Police Report

A 53-year-old Old Forge man was charged with Speed in Zone, Driving While Intoxicated and Driving with .08 or more of alcohol following an incident that occurred on Friday, April 24 at 9:49 p.m.

According to the report, a traffic stop on NYS Route 28 in Old Forge resulted in the arrest of said subject for DWI. The man was released on traffic tickets for said charges which are all returnable to the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

Avoiding bear problems: DEC issues guidance to homeowners

The warmer spring weather has black bears on the move in the area, so the New York State Depart-ment of Environmental Conservation (DEC) issued guidance Tuesday on how to prevent negative encounters with them.

Nearly all negative encounters are the result of hungry bears being attracted to human food sources, according to DEC.

The simplest way to avoid a nuisance encounter is to remove potential food sources, which usually results in the bear moving on.   Continue reading

IABA to host meeting/social on May 5th

Inlet Area Business Association (IABA) will host a Cinco de Mayo Meeting and Social Gathering at Drake’s Inn on Tuesday, May 5 beginning at 6 p.m.
