Old Forge: Events abound throughout town, March 13, 14 & 15

There will be no shortage of things to see and do in and around Old Forge this St. Patrick’s Day weekend with many events and activities planned.

• Major snowmobile manufacturers representing Arctic Cat, Polaris, SkiDoo and Yamaha will reveal their 2016 models at the 8th Annual Snofest at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street in Old Forge on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. Continue reading

Curtain up this weekend for Webb school’s annual musical

Following months of rehearsals, Town of Webb School drama students will take to the stage on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14 to present their production of, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Eagle Bay to host Cabin Fever Party

The Eagle Bay Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary invites all to its annual Cabin Fever Party on Saturday, March 14 from 5:30 p.m. at the fire hall on Route 28.

The auxiliary will provide a cold cut tray, condiments and beverages, and all guests are asked to bring a dish to pass.

A 50/50 Cash Bash drawing will be held during the festivities.

“Come and chat with your neighbors and enjoy an evening out with your friends. Everyone is invited to our annual winter event,” said Andi Smith and Sharon Daviau, event co-chairs.

Blake Greene ends season at U14 State Championships

Blake Greene, a member of the Polar Bear Alpine U14 team, competed at the U14 State Championships held at Gore Mountain on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6, and Sunday, March 8.

At Thursday’s Giant Slalom race, he had a great first run, but did not start the second run. He took third place in Friday’s Super G race; and on Sunday’s Slalom race he had another great first run but was disqualified on the second run.

Webb school gets go-ahead from voters on roof project

Voters in the Town of Webb school district voted in favor of a proposition to expend funds for a roof reconstruction project at a special vote on Wednesday, March 11.

Library to host Poetry/Illustration event, March 17

The awards ceremony and opening reception for the Old Forge Library’s Poetry and Illustration Exhibit will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

According to Library Director Isabella Worthen, there were 129 illustration and 178 poetry entries received from Herkimer, Oneida and Madison Counties and the Town of Inlet.

Winners and honorable mentions who entered work following the theme, Mountains and Roots, will be announced by Emcee Michael Cunningham. All entries will remain on display in the library wing through May 16.
