State legislators, local highway superintendents push for more pavement, pothole repair funds in NY budget

A bipartisan group of 114 New York State legislators, along with county and town highway superintendents from across the state, has joined together in calling for increased state funding for local highway improvements.

State Senator James Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) was among them, as the coalition was announced on Wednesday, March 4.

“Motorist safety and economic vitality depend on the condition of these roads and the state must step up and fund [their maintenance],” he said. Continue reading →

Adirondack groups partner to raise funds for Inlet’s Senior/Community Center

CAP-21 and Adirondack Cares, an organization established by the Adirondack Foundation to help non-profits and communities raise funds for essential projects, are partners in a 60-day on-line campaign to raise funds for carpet replacement at the Inlet Senior/Community Center. Continue reading →

Roof Project: Webb school district to vote on proposal, March 11

The Town of Webb Union Free School District (TOW UFSD) hosted a public hearing on Tuesday, March 3 for its proposed Roof Reconstruction Project of 2015.

Registered voters in the school district will be able to vote on the proposition on Wednesday, March 11, between 2 and 9 p.m.

Jack Moore to serve as St. Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal

For the past 37 years, Jack Moore of Old Forge has found himself cross-bar, providing beverages to customers celebrating festivities on or around St. Patrick’s Day.

Fifteen of those years have been spent with fellow bartenders at the TOW Bar as they fulfill the orders of the hordes of local and visiting revelers who gather at the busy corner hotspot to view Old Forge’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Continue reading →

Albany: Senator Hugh Farley appointed to leadership post in NY State Senate

Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) was promoted to the Senate Leadership position of Vice President Pro Tempore of the Senate on Wednesday, March 4.

This is the third highest position in the Senate Leadership.

“I am thrilled and humbled by this appointment. I have been honored to serve in the State Senate and am pleased that my Senate colleagues have expressed their confidence in me. I will continue to work with my fellow Senators to advance policies to improve our State, promote economic development and provide needed tax relief,” Senator Farley said. Continue reading →

Inlet Area Business Assoc. discusses upcoming events and a new challenge activity to be introduced in 2015

The Inlet Area Business Association (IABA) held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 3 at Screamen Eagle with 17 members in attendance.

IABA will start a fundraising campaign to assist the Town of Inlet with costs associated with maintaining the InletNY.com website.

Albany: Seward & Brindisi introduce legislation to amend SAFE Act

A legislative package has been introduced in Albany to amend and repeal portions of  the NY-SAFE Act, according to an announcement made by State Senator James Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D-Utica) on March 2.

Two years have passed since the enactment of the governor’s NY-SAFE Act, yet there is no tangible evidence that the law has increased safety, according to the two state legislators. Continue reading →
