Meghan Bathke raising funds for fight against young adult cancers

Meghan Bathke of Marco Island, FL and formerly of New Hartford, will join 30 other college-aged students in the 4K for Cancer, a 70-day bicycle trek to raise funds and awareness for the Ulman Cancer Center at John Hopkins Hospital.

The riders, who must raise $4,500 each for the trip, will depart from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on May 29, 2015 to their destination of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, a 4,000-plus mile journey.  Continue reading

Services planned for Tayler R. Schmid, 17

TaylerTayler R. Schmid, 17, of Thendara, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was born on July 23, 1997, in Little Falls, a son of Hans and Laurie Hall Schmid.  Tayler was currently a Junior at the Town of Webb School.

He was a natural athlete who played soccer and ran track.   Continue reading

DEC seeks to improve Mountain Bike Trail System in Moose River Plains; amendment meeting scheduled Thursday, December 18 at Raquette Lake

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking comments to amend the Moose River Plains Wild Forest (MRPWF) Unit Management Plan to improve its mountain bike trail system.

“The 2011 Unit Management Plan called for DEC to create a working group consisting of mountain bikers, local governments and other interested parties to develop a comprehensive mountain bike plan for Moose River Plains,” said Regional Director Robert Stegemann.  Continue reading

VIEW: ‘Sound of Music’ performance to feature critically acclaimed actress
