Nivea Sarabia, 84 passes away in Florida

Nivea Sarabia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. She was born on January 6, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Agripina Diaz and Francisco Sarabia.  NIVEA

She spent her youth between Mexico City and Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. She married Burton Nelson Deis in February of 1952, then moved to Old Forge, NY, where she spent the next 40 years. Nivea moved to Lee County, Florida in 1995 to be closer to her daughters.  Continue reading

Graveside service set for Robert M. Watson, 85

Robert M. Watson of Thendara passed away unexpectedly with his family at his side on May 28, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.Watson photo

He was born in Thendara on June 9, 1928, a son of Morley J. and Alice (Poirier) Watson. Bob graduated from Town of Webb Schools in 1946, and was united in marriage with Louise Dodge in 1949. Continue reading

Memorial service set for Peter Steele

A memorial service for Peter Steele, who passed away on December 6, 2013, will be held Monday, June 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, 228 Crosby Boulevard, Old Forge.

A brief reception will follow.

His family is collecting pictures and “church appropriate” stories for the service.

Kiwanis sponsors Webb Students at Leadership Training Program

Central Adirondack Kiwanis sponsored Town of Webb School students and Key Club members Rebecca Sessions, Chelby Simpson and Madison Rice as attendees at the New York State Kiwanis Key Leader Program at Camp Stella Maris in Livonia over the weekend of May 2, 3 and 4th.

Key Leader is a Leadership Training Program for high school students ages 14 to 18. The program provides both a classroom component and hands-on outdoor workshops, which reinforces the classroom teachings.  Continue reading

Inlet Ladies 18-Hole Golf League starting June 10

The Inlet Ladies 18 hole Golf League will begin on Tuesday, June 10 with a tee time of 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to arrive at the golf course by 8 a.m. at which time the pairings will be given out.

Ladies should sign up the week prior to the week they wish to play. If you are not a member of the Inlet Golf Club, you will be able to play at a special greens fee rate. Continue reading
