Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra schedules return for Inlet concert

Gerald Dupuis, chairman of the Fulton Chain of Lakes Performing Arts Council, Inc., has announced that The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will return on Friday, July 25 for a concert under the tent at Arrowhead Park.

The FCLPAC is also awaiting word on a repeat free concert by the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division Band  at the same venue on Sunday, July 27th.

Tickets for the performance will be available for purchase at the Inlet and Old Forge Information Offices in mid-May, but in the meantime the FCLPAC is hoping appreciators of the symphony will consider making a contribution to assist with starting costs for this year’s event.  Continue reading →

Tecwyn Williams selected as April Student of Month

The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has announced that its Student of the Month for April is Tecwyn Williams. Tecwyn is the son of James and Lisa Williams of Old Forge and is a senior at Town of Webb Union Free School.1517636_711830168840867_167976110_n

The Student of the Month is a program initiated by the Kiwanis Club, in cooperation with the Town of Webb School, that recognizes senior students.

Each month from September to April the school administrators select a Student of the Month who will receive $50 and with his/her parents are invited to a Kiwanis Recognition Event to make a brief presentation. Continue reading →

AAA Defensive Driving Courses slated in Utica

AAA New York will be conducting two Driver Improvement courses at Mohawk Valley Community College.

The classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, April 8 and 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Students must attend both evenings to receive a certificate.

The second class will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The fee is $39 for AAA members, $32 for AAA senior members (60+) and $55 for non-members.

Senate Budget features tax relief, school aid, local priorities

It is full steam ahead in Albany as work to complete an on-time state budget is fully underway.

While meeting the April 1 deadline is important, it is even more vital that the final product is fiscally responsible AND meets the needs of families, businesses, and community groups.

The senate budget resolution, which I helped craft, includes a number of key initiatives that will be valuable to our state’s future.

Among the highlights—property tax relief to combat the greatest expense families and business in New York face; education aid that will support our neediest schools; and job creation incentives which will help boost economic development. Continue reading →

Thanks for great student production

Matthew Thomas Productions and all the participating local business sponsors would like to congratulate all the Town of Webb students cast and crew of 40-plus who participated in the 2014 performance of “Annie Get Your Gun.”

You’ve all worked very hard and long hours to put on a great show and each of you will receive a free ticket to the June 5 Spring Concert which will be held at the Strand Theater.

MAC’s Safe Ride, Webb patrolman among county breakfast honorees

MAC’s Safe Ride and Town of Webb Patrol-man A.J. Silverman were among those honored at the 6th Annual Herkimer County STOP-DWI Law Enforcement Recog-nition Breakfast on Wednesday, March 26 for their efforts to curb drinking and driving in their communities.

Accepting the award on behalf of MAC’s was organization co-founder Gisele Kress who received the award from Town of Webb Police Chief John Russell, who also nominated Officer Silverman for the honor.

Kress, who helped launch the late-night transportation service following the death of her son Matt Girouard and his friend Craig Sears in a 2009 car accident, was one of the many presenters and recipients who had the opportunity to share their experiences of the consequences of DWI. Eagle Bay F.D. announces its 2014 Chili Cook-Off winners

The Eagle Bay Fire Department held its inaugural Chili Cook-Off at the firehall on Saturday, February 22nd. Winners were named in the Pro, Amateur, Fire Department, and People’s Choice divisions.

The winner of the professional division was Bryan Bennett of Mountainside Smokehouse & Grill; Kathy Beauchamp was the winner in the amateur category; Bill Faro took honors in the fire department category; and the winner of the people’s choice award was Chef Buford of the Otter Lake Fire Department.

Members of the Eagle Bay Fire Department thank the judges for their help, and also thank those who came and supported the event. They look forward to hosting the cook-off again next year.
