Romaine ‘Romey’ Gallo, 76: Former Old Forge resident passes away in NC

Romaine Bruno Gallo, of Surf City, NC, formerly of Gatlinburg, TN and formerly Boonville, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center after greater than a decade of battling Multiple Myeloma.

Romaine “Romey” was born on November 22, 1937 to Bruno and Michalina Gallo at home in West Leyden, NY the youngest of ten brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Elaine Mooney Gallo.

Romey and Elaine were married on October 1, 1960 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Rome, NY which started a love affair for the storybooks. Continue reading

Services held for Kyle Douglas Riedman, 24

Kyle D. Riedman, 24, of Old Forge, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident.kyle_riedman

Kyle was born in Utica, NY on August 7, 1989, to Douglas and Judy (McGlynn) Riedman and lived his entire life in Old Forge.

Starting with the Kinderwood preschool program, he then attended Town of Webb Schools and graduated in 2008 amongst a special group of lifelong friends.

He continued his education at Paul Smith’s College, earning an Associate of Science Degree in Agricultural and Landscape Management and a Bachelors of Science in Forestry and Vegetation Management in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Continue reading

Spring service planned for Ivan A. Kaye, 86

Ivan A. Kaye, 86, of Otter Lake, passed away February 6, 2014 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL.

He was born April 24, 1927 in Bellingham, MA, a son of Clarence and Janet Connelly Kaye.

He graduated from Westbor-ough High School in 1945 and then served in the Navy from 1945 to 47.

He was employed at Gold Seal Stationary in Massachusetts. Ivan retired from Angelica Corporation of Utica as a stationary steam engineer. Continue reading

Barnstormers to meet Feb. 18

The Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18 at the Inlet Information Office.

Election of officers for next year’s season will be held during the meeting. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. More information is available by calling (315) 357-5233.

Ad’k Cardboard Sled Race Circuit sets local races

Four races remain on the Adirondack Cardboard Sled Race Circuit, with racers needing three events of the season’s five to qualify for the circuit championship.

Sunday, February 16 at 1 p.m. – Indian Lake Winterfest’s Red Neck Cardboard and Duct Tape Race
