Old Forge Library: Anne Phinney to emcee Open Mic Night on Feb. 19th

The Old Forge Library will host an Open Mic Night for writers in a coffee house setting on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m. with local author Anne Phinney serving as featured reader and emcee.

Phinney is a Town of Webb School elementary teacher who recently released her first book, Finding My Way to Moose River Farm: Living with Animals in the Adirondacks.

Eagle Bay Fire Department to sponsor benefit for Sid Payne III on Feb. 15th

The Eagle Bay Fire Department is sponsoring a benefit spaghetti dinner for member Sid Payne III, who was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident on the Big Moose Road on January 4th.

The fundraising event will be held Saturday, February 15 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the department’s fire hall on Route 28.

The cost of the dinner is $10 per person and includes spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and salad.

Take-outs will be available.

There will also be a Chinese raffle, a 50/50 Raffle and a raffle for a Basket of Cheer.

Proceeds will assist with Payne’s medical expenses, including those relating to surgeries, hospitalization, and physical therapy.

It’s that time of year again. America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk at Utica College is Saturday, March 1st.

I’m very excited this year that I will be joined by family from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and around New York state at this year’s event.

Family members from Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, New Jersey, and New York who are unable to come will be walking for the cause in their respective hometowns. Continue reading

Senator Seward welcomes association’s snowmobile message to the state capital

The New York State Snowmobile Association unveiled a special informational exhibit on the concourse level of the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

Among those welcoming the group was Senator James Seward.

“Snowmobiling is a terrific winter pastime and means a great deal to our local economy,” Seward said.   Continue reading

Don’t forget to enter Sweetheart Dessert Contest

Entries for the Old Forge Library’s Sweetheart Dessert Contest on Wednesday, February 12 can be dropped at the library by 5 p.m. the day of the event.

Entries will be accepted in four categories: Youth Student, Teen Student, Adult and Master and will be judged on creativity, presentation, texture and taste.

A reception will be held at 7 p.m. and the contest winners will be announced at 7:40 p.m.

The community is invited to stop in from 7 to 8 p.m. to sample the entries and also to help celebrate the Old Forge Library Constitution which was voted on February 12, 1914—100 years ago by the first trustees in their process to establish the Old Forge Library.

Old Forge Library’s Lego Club says thank you

photoThe Old Forge Library’s After school Lego Club has been building up a storm this winter, thanks to the community’s generosity.

A hearty thank you to everyone who has contributed. We are happy to report we have plenty of Legos for everyone to enjoy.

Come build with us on the first and third Tuesdays of February and March from 2:15 to 4 p.m.
