Central Adirondack Assn. announces Snodeo raffle winners

The winners of the 2013 Snodeo raffles were drawn at the end of the event on Sunday, December 15 at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center.

First prize winner of a new snowmobile was Michael Lulli of Newburgh, NY. Kevin Blair of Glenwood, NJ held the winning ticket for a Polaris 120 snowmobile.

Victor Dagostino of Wayne, NJ took the second cash prize of $1,000; Bill McGough of Woodgate won third prize of $500; fourth prize winner of $300 was Wayne Walters of Mechanicsburg, PA; and fifth and sixth prize winners of $100 each were Jennifer Conover of Saratoga Springs, NY and Brian Teichman of Crompond, NY.

The Snodeo is currently in its 37th year. The annual event is the Town of Webb’s official kick-off to the snowmobile season.

McCauley chalet construction could have been handled in better fashion

I read with interest, in the December 17, 2013 Adirondack Express, the Town of Webb Board’s comments on the renovations at McCauley Mountain’s Chalet.

Specifically that they “…be positive and open-minded about the change and embrace it.” It seems to me that the Board is not completely confident in the changes they authorized.

By the way, I have been operating the Café and Tavern at McCauley Mountain for 16 years, and was unaware that the construction was to happen.

It had been discussed between the mountain manager and me, and I was under the impression nothing was planned.

Imagine my surprise when I went to the Chalet and it was done!

Out of respect to me and my staff, it would have been decent if someone on the Board had contacted me on my input and the effects it would have on my business.

I suggest someone on the Board read the lease I have with the Town of Webb.

Inlet Champagne Bus to provide New Year’s Eve transportation

The Champagne Bus will be running again on New Year’s Eve, providing safe transportation for those out to enjoy parties at participating establishments.

The bus will start running at 8 p.m.  and will continue looping throughout the night making stops at Seventh Lake House, Drake’s Inn, The Ole Barn, Matt’s Draft House, Red Dog Tavern, The Woods Inn, The Tavern, and Northwoods Inn.  Continue reading →

MAC’s Safe Ride says thank you

On behalf of MAC’s Safe Ride, I would like to say thank you to the volunteers that helped at the MAC’s Safe Ride booth at the Snodeo event last weekend: Gisele Kress, Carol Perkins, Michele and Dana Deangelo, Jaimee Darmody, and Marissa Pavlus. I would also like to thank the area businesses that contributed to the success of our Old Forge getaway raffle: The Water’s Edge Inn, the Town of Webb, Slickers, and the Front Door Diner.

Thank you to our locals and visitors for their generosity which made the entire weekend a success. We appreciate all of the donations and continued support of the entire Town of Webb community.

Thank you, Mr. Leach, for your vast sports contributions

After my first semester at college, I know what to expect when I meet someone who recognizes me. Generally it’s a warm smile and an eager “How’s college?”

College is tough. I’ve learned that you have to be used to the feeling of being not quite on top of your schoolwork.

And the problem is compounded when you have to balance that schoolwork with extracurricular activities, social activities, and occasionally meals and sleep. Continue reading →

Kiwanis to host Free Kids Movie at Strand

The Kiwanis Club’s Bob Thayer Memorial Free Holiday Movie for Kids is set for Saturday, December 21 at the Strand Theatre in Old Forge.

Children ages 12 and under are admitted to the movie free of charge when accompanied by an adult who will also be admitted free.

This year’s featured film will be, “Walking with Dinosaurs.”

Aside from free admission to the movie, children will receive popcorn and a drink at no charge.  Continue reading →

Services planned for J. Claude Lecours

J. Claude Lecours of Old Forge passed away on December 14, 2013 at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville after a long illness.Lecours J Claude pic

He was born in Nantes, Quebec, son of Felicien and Yvette Baillargeon Lecours. Mr. Lecours was educated in Canada and came to the Adirondacks and worked as a logger.

He then became an excavating contractor in the Old Forge area, later becoming a logging broker, retiring in 2006.
