Services held for former Town of Webb Police Chief Crofut, 87

Robert Crofut, former Town of Webb Chief of Police, age 87, of Old Forge, passed away December 5, 2013 at home with his family at his side.

He was born April 30, 1926, in Old Forge, the son of Harold and Olive Clark Crofut. Bob received his education in Old Forge Schools, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served our country during World War II.  Chief Crofut, with cruiser

He married Carol Harwood on September 11, 1948, in Inlet. The couple recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Following his military service, he worked for the Town of Webb Highway Department; was later employed as Game Warden; and retired as Chief of the Town of Webb Police Department where he served for 38 years.

HASCA says thanks

The HASCA Board of Directors, staff, and clients extend a heartfelt thank you to Billy Burns and all those who participated in the donation dinner at Billy’s Italian-American Restaurant on Main St. in Old Forge to benefit the ome Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks.

HASCA is a not-for-profit home care agency based in Old Forge since 1979. The proceeds from sharing a delicious dinner at Billy’s will help our agency to provide affordable, quality at-home care to clients throughout the region with locally trained, NYS certified home health aides.

Old Forge Library Christmas Party set

The Old Forge Library will host its annual Family Christmas Party on Thursday, December 19 at 6 p.m. Join Christmas Elves Jingle Belle and Snowflake for a reading of The Night Before Christmas and to view the film, The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree.

Refreshments will be served and prizes awarded to those who come in their jammies.

Big Moose Chapel Christmas Service

Big Moose Chapel’s annual Christmas Candlelight service will be held Sunday, December 22 at 4 p.m. Reverend Lawrence Bartel of Niccolls Church will officiate at the service. Nicholas Steltzer will be the organist and lead the congregation in song. All are welcome to attend.

‘Miracle on 34th Street’ coming to View stage, Dec. 14

The classic Christmas movie Miracle on 34th Street will come to life at View’s Gould Hall on Saturday, December 14 at 2 p.m. with a musical performance presented by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

Melissa Murphy of Old Forge is among the cast of local performers featured in the production.

Miracle on 34th Street tells the story of Kris Kringle’s attempt to help those who have lost their faith believe in Santa Claus again. 001M

Filled with humor, the musical includes the songs, Pincecones and Hollyberries, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, and  My State, My Kansas.

It is appropriate for family members of all ages.

Tickets are $20 for non-members, $15 for members, and $5 for students and children ages 18 and under.

Webb school Holiday Band Concert set Dec. 18

The Town of Webb School’s Holiday Collage Band Concert, which will include performances by the Junior, Senior and Stage Bands, will be held in the school gymnasium on Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m.

The concert will include smaller instrumental groups that will also be playing holiday favorites. The students will be under the direction of instrumental music instructor Emily Herrmann.

Cookies and punch will follow the performance.
