You have heard it before: “one person’s junk may be another person’s treasure.” Every year about this time the calls start flooding in. The snow has melted exposing everything laying around in people’s yards.

Summer residents are starting to arrive, getting ready for another season, and see stuff laying around in neighboring properties.

Montessori principles incorporated in Kinderwood preschool program

Montessori-trained Amy Bartel is working with Kinderwood Director Diane Heroux to bring the three- and four-year-old enrollees more Montessori in their education.

Kinderwood has always had a modified Montessori curriculum, which is child-driven, according to Heroux. With founder Mirnie Kashiwa’s background, the curriculum has always had a strong art component as well.  Continue reading

_MG_2955Covey-Pashley American Legion Post #893 of Old Forge will host its 50th Annual Golf Tournament at Thendara Golf Club on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, June 8, 9, and 10th.

The tournament is open to all members of the American Legion, its auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion and their guests.

Some major hole-in-one prizes have been donated in commemoration of the 50-year event.  Continue reading

Benjamin T. Gilbert, the top shareholder in both companies—the Fulton Chain and Raquette Lake Transportation Company, and the Fulton Chain and Raquette Lake Steamboat Company, both formed in 1896—was the son of Benjamin D. Gilbert.

Benjamin T. left Yale in 1894 to hunt in Colorado, then started for Italy and ended up hunting boar in Morocco, then studied literature at the Sorbonne in Paris and returned to get a B.A. at Columbia.  Continue reading

AARP Driving Course slated

An AARP Driving Course will be held at Niccolls Memorial Church in Old Forge on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12th. The course will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days.

The cost is $17 for members and $19 fro non-members. To register, call Bob Seager at (315) 392-3808.

Dr. Wm. Rotton service June 6

A memorial service for Dr. William Rotton, 86, who passed away on March 7, 2013 will be held at Niccolls Memorial Church in Old Forge on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m. A reception at Thendara Golf Club will follow the service.

Great Camp Sagamore directors set to retire

The trustees of Great Camp Sagamore announced at their May meeting that Beverly Bridger, who has been executive director since 1989, plans to retire in December.

Also retiring is Associate Director Dr. Michael Wilson. Continue reading
