Webb school budget passes, Denio elected to school board

Voters in the Town of Webb Union Free School District approved the 2013-2014 budget of $7,918,132 at the school budget vote held Tuesday, May 21st. There were 278 votes in favor of the budget and 64 against it.

Also, Maryellen Denio was elected to serve a five-year term on the Board of Education. She had 273 votes and her opponent, Raymond E. Randall, Jr., had 50 votes.

Central Adirondack Assn. to hold its Spring Fling on Thursday, June 6th

The Central Adirondack Association (CAA) is inviting all members and non-members to its annual Spring Fling social gathering. The event will take place on Thursday, June 6, from 6 p.m. at the Big Moose Inn, hosted by owners Mark and Susan Mayer.

Hot and cold appetizers will be served for $10 per person, and a cash bar will be open.

“It’s an annual CAA event, an opportunity for people to come together before the busy summer season,” said Gary Staab, CAA membership chairman. “It’s a great time to network with other businesses and find out about events we sponsor, as well as the many contributions we make to community organizations who request donations.”

Idea sharing is something that Staab, as a long-term local business owner, has found useful in CAA meetings.  Continue reading

Adirondack Polka Fest returning to Hiltebrant Rec Center, May 25 & 26

The 16th Annual Adirondack Polka Fest will be held at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on North Street on Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26th.

The two-day event, which will be held from 1 to 9 p.m., will feature music by top polka bands, dancing and Polish food. On Saturday, the featured bands will be Tony Blazonczyk and New Phaze of Chicago, IL and the Massachusetts-based Eddie Forman Orchestra.

Hank Guzevich and Polka Family and New Direction will take to the stage on Sunday.

A Polka Mass  featuring Polka Family is scheduled for noon on Sunday. Continue reading

St. Elizabeth’s and Webb Health Center Fund to host open house at View

St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the Board of Directors of the Town of Webb Health Care Fund, Inc. will hold an Open House on Wednesday, May 29 for the Town of Webb Health Center.

The event is open to the public and will take place at View, located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Town of Webb Health Center at 114 South Shore Road will be open throughout the event for tours.

For many years, the Town of Webb oversaw and provided funds for healthcare for residents and visitors through the Town of Webb Health Center.

In May 2012, St. Elizabeth Medical Center and its Medical Group and Town of Webb began working on a lease agreement to have the Medical Group resume the operation of the Health Center. Continue reading

Old Forge readies Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Old Forge will be held on Monday, May 27th.

Marchers should line up on Gilbert Street between the Post Office and the Town of Webb School by 9:45 a.m.

The parade begins from the school at 10 a.m. following a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Stone on the school lawn.

Marchers will include members of American Legion Post #893, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Old Forge Fire Department and their Auxiliary, and the Town of Webb School Band.

The parade will continue along Main Street, stopping briefly to place a wreath on the Memorial Stone at the Fire Hall, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the American Legion Covey-Pashley Post #893.

From there the parade will proceed to Riverview Cemetery where the Memorial Day Ceremony will begin with a welcome by Covey Pashley Post #893 Commander Bill Simpson. Master of Ceremonies will be Bill Ransom.

The Invocation will be conducted by Father Shane Lynch, Pastor of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Old Forge, with Benediction conducted by Rev. Lawrence Bartel of Niccolls Memorial Church, Old Forge. Continue reading
