Rebecca Sessions named Webb ‘Wall of Distinction’ honoree

Town of Webb UFSD Principal John Swick announced Rebecca Sessions as the third quarter Wall of Distinction winner, on Friday, April 15.

Nominations are made through a form on the Town of Webb school’s website.

Rebecca was nominated by Kathleen Lawrence, the Woodgate Free Library Director.

“During the 2015–2016 school year, once, sometimes twice a week, Rebecca would arrive promptly after school to volunteer her services at the library,” Lawrence said. Continue reading →

Services planned for Frances S. Eck, 74

Frances (Sardina) Eck age 74, of Utica, NY and Florida passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in Florida.

She was born in Utica on March 30, 1941, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Rosalie LaBarbara Sardina. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, received her Bachelor of Science from Utica College of Syracuse University, and went on to earn her Master’s Degree from Syracuse University Graduate School. Continue reading →

Caroline DeFilipps to study general ed. with an art emphasis

Town of Webb senior Caroline DeFilipps, 18, has lived in Old Forge all her life, attending the Town of Webb school.

At the time of this interview she was deciding whether to enroll at Onondaga Community College or Utica College, with an eye toward General Education studies.

Chloe Brosemer plans to major in Early Childhood Education

Town of Webb senior Chloe Brosemer, 17, has lived locally and attended Webb school since kindergarten.

In the fall, Chloe is looking to study Early Childhood Education at Wells College in Aurora, NY.

She is also going to minor in Business, she said.

Well, the participants of the Senior Health Activity and Recreation Program (SHARP) proved that they still have artistic ability.

Wishing and itching for prime spring fishing to begin

In the last week of April 1974 I was itching to get my fishing pole down to the lake, so I could catch some early season Splake.

The bad part of itching to fish was that I could not find any worms that were as ready as I was.

The nighttime temperatures were very cold, and most of the boards and rocks I had regularly flipped to harvest worms the previous summer were still frozen to the ground. Continue reading →

Dolphins, gulls and pelicans provide beachside entertainment

The weather down this way has been very windy and warm and without snow. It looks like the temperatures up north have improved some, and the snow should be gone again.
