View hosts Neighbor Day open house, Sun., June 9

Friends and neighbors are invited for a day of fun at View on Sunday, June 9 for the annual Neighbor Day. Neighbor Day is an open house event that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

It will include entertainment, activities, demos and a chicken BBQ and will take place from noon to 4 p.m.

The Moose Radio will be broadcasting live from View and Ellen Drake will play the piano.

The chicken BBQ will be sold and served by North Woods Lodge Masons & Dewey-Old Forge Order of the Eastern Star.

Hamburgers and hot dogs can be purchased from the members of Kiwanis Key Club with proceeds benefiting local food pantries.

There will also be free Sno cones.

There will be free exhibition admission to all of View’s current exhibitions including the Northeast National Pastel Exhibition, the Kaatskill Wood-turners Association Juried Exhibition, and “Nature’s Spirit” photography by Walter Jakubowski.

Also on display will be the artwork by the art students of Robert Fountain at Town of Webb School, and “Wild-Eyed: A Fresh Look at Adirondack Fauna” paintings by Rosemary Conroy.

Children’s activities include Snow Dye a Tee Shirt, and creating bubble wands with bubble juice.

The snow dying activity is $12 for a short sleeve shirt and $15 for a long sleeve shirt Bubble. Bubble wands and juice are free.

The Meyda Tiffany & Lighting Creative Arts Wing Open House includes demos and lectures for a variety of artists.

View’s pottery studio will be open to the public to see potters demonstrating wheel and hand building.

Mike Bloomquist will demonstrate wood carving and arbara Green of Adirondack Green House Basketry will be basket weaving.

Patricia Merritt of Santa Rita Rugs will demonstrate punch needle rug hooking.

Award-winning photographer Carl Heilman II will lead a free lecture, “I am the Adirondacks” at 2 p.m.

The program will feature a slideshow of his photography paired with a poem written by Miriam D. Kashiwa. A book signing will follow.

David Hazard, founder of Ascent, will lead a free lecture, “Success at Publishing & Self-Publishing” at 3 p.m.

Hazard, a 34-year veteran ublishing consultant and bestselling author, will offer information on the commercial publishing and self-publishing worlds.

View is a multi-arts center located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge.
