Inlet Historical Society Members and friends of the Inlet Historical Society gathered in the main collection and display room of their building in downtown Inlet on Saturday, May 25 to unveil the new sign donated by Board Member Waddie Kalil.

During the unveiling, Kalil delivered a speech on the importance of collecting and sharing Inlet’s history.

His focus was on what he believed to be the American dream as achieved by his father and mother and uncle as they made a living and brought up their families in Inlet.

He stressed the importance of community involvement in organizations such as the historical society and thanked the 88 donors who came forward in the last three months and donated over $7,000 for the building’s window and door fund.

He thanked the continued membership and leadership of the Inlet Historical Society for their vision and realization of a building to house the artifacts of Inlet’s past.

Kalil, along with organization President Craig Wittlin, also thanked the Inlet American Legion Post Leonard-Mick-Roberts, for their help in securing the building.

Following the unveiling, visitors joined the membership in an open house reception to view a portion of the growing collection.

The Inlet Historical Society will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer.
