January 26 blood drive to aid scholarship effort

Town of Webb School senior Molly Rodriguez is working with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Park Avenue Building gym in Old Forge on Saturday, January 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Blood types usually in greatest demand are A+, AB+ and O-, but all blood types are needed. Rodriguez said the Red Cross is always in need of double red cell donors and recommends eating bread, eggs and/or meat the day before giving blood so that iron counts are high enough to donate.

According to Rodriguez, if she is able to attract 30 more donors than the goal set by the Red Cross, she and the school’s National Honor Society will receive scholarship monies.

She plans on using the scholarship funds to support her tuition to LeMoyne College, where she plans to study nursing in the fall.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling Rodriquez at (315) 369-2244, Bette Pepper at 369-6214, or go to the American Red Cross website. Walk-ins are welcome, however registering ahead of time will save donors a wait.
