Bryan Easton and rescue team honored for life saving effort

Oswego firefighter and paramedic Bryan Easton and a team of fellow rescue personnel were recently recognized by the City of Oswego for saving an area man’s life.

It was a rapid heartbeat that caused Oswego resident Jim Favata to go into cardiac arrest in the parking lot of Lowe’s on September 9.

Within five minutes  Easton and his rescue team were on the scene. Favata was on the ground, not breathing and without a pulse.

The team performed CPR and used a defibrillator on Favata. After a few minutes the victim had a pulse back and began breathing.

Favata was transferred by ambulance to Oswego Hospital before being transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he remained in a coma for seven days.

When he came out of the coma, one of the first things he said was that he had to meet the guys who saved his life.

Fully recovered, he joined the rescuers at the Oswego Fire Station on December 12 for lunch and to extend his gratitude.

Easton, a 2005 Town of Webb graduate who got his start as a junior firefighter with the Old Forge Fire Department, has been a paramedic for three years.

In May of this year he was named Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year for Oswego County.

He was hired as a paramedic and firefighter for the City of Oswego in July of 2012.

While Easton currently lives in Oswego, when he comes home to Old Forge, he usually has a radio from the fire department on in case there is a call for a paramedic.

Easton is the son of Shelly Madsen of Old Forge and Chuck Easton of Frankfort and the grandson of Gloria and Drew Webster of Eagle Bay.
