Town of Webb Board of Education holds meeting, October 16

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, October 16, where it engaged in discussion and took action as described in the following summary, which does not represent the approved minutes of the board.

Public Forum:

Ms. Nahor welcomed BOCES Board members Michael Kramer, Jeff Timmerman, Grace Rice and Alice Draper to the meeting. Mr. Boak presented the services that BOCES offers.

Jennifer Dunn, District Treasurer reported and provided information regarding claims auditing.

The Board of Education took the following action:

Approved the Minutes of October 2, 2012.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Treasurer’s Report for September 2012

Approved the Committee on Special Education Recommendations.

Appointed Girls Modified Volleyball coaches for 2012-2013 school year: Mary Starring 1st year – $1,539.

Approved the revised Board Policies:

506.5 – Safety: Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

507.3.3 – Promotion of Students: Grades K-5 Minimum Standards.

Approved the following as surplus:

• 1989 Jacobsen Turfcat T4366 Mower – 72” mowing deck & 48” snow blower. Minimum bid $750.

• 8 – 11’ x 50’ rolls of vinyl floor covering. Minimum bid $5.00 per roll.

Accepted the bid of $2,750 from Linda Rodriguez for the surplus 2001 Buick LaSabre car.

Appointed the following list of Substitute Teacher at the rate of $80/day and as Substitute Teacher Aide at the rate of $9.75/hour: Tyler Steenburg, Philip Sanzone, Nicole James, and Patricia Jones.

Accepted the Financial Statements and Audit Report for the Fiscal Year ending June 2012, as compiled by Stackel and Navarra, P.C., Certified Public Accountants on August 28, 2012.

Approved the rate of pay for In School Suspension monitors at their approved substitute per diem rate of pay.

Approve 13.5 CSEA Sick Bank days for a CSEA employee.

Special Topic: The Board Reviewed: Board Policy Section 400.

Principal’s Report submitted regarding:

• Thank you to Kari Lehman from BOCES for helping us during our Superintendent’s Conference Day. All teachers created and submitted a draft of their SLO’s before the end of the day.

• Thank you to the Old Forge Fire Department, Chief Bogardus, and Firefighter Larry for visiting grades K-4 last week.

They provided helpful information to our students and donated some great items for our students to take home to their families to help with fire prevention.

• The SLO’s for all teachers are being finalized before the end of the month as I conduct a one on one conference with each teacher.

• During our Superintendent’s Conference Day we were able to have a BOCES Smart Board trainer, Kim Casselman, visit to work with our teachers for the afternoon using their Smart Boards.

Ms. Casselman is planning to return to provide further instruction by the end of the month.

• Dancing Wheels was a success presenting to our 7th-9th graders in the gymnasium. The company sent four dancers to perform and to familiarize our students with life in a wheel chair.

• 5-Week Reports were mailed out Friday to each parent/ guardian for discussion and awareness.

• Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ Varsity soccer teams for taking 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the Columbus Day Tournament.

• Congratulations to the Senior and Junior Class as they tied for first place in the Columbus Day Float Contest.

Thank you to Jed Kinney and all the Class Advisers for organizing the parade.

• Key Club took a field trip to Camp Gorham to work on teambuilding. Thank you to Diane Amos for conducting this field trip.

• Book Fair began with Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 5th Grade and 6th Grade in attendance. Wednesday, 10/17/12, 1st, 3rd and 4th Grades will have the opportunity to attend the Book Fair. There will be an evening Book Fair event also.

• Miss Harmer and the AP Environmental class took a Field Trip to the Flat Rock Demonstration Forest for the afternoon.

Thank you to the Flatrock Demonstration Forest for providing our A.P. E.S. class with the opportunity to visit.

Students were able to sample a population of trees during their visit.

• Student Council took a field trip to Camp Gorham to enhance their leadership qualities. Mr. Jed Kinney and Mr. Mark Johnston conducted the field trip.

Superintendent’s Report included the topics:

• Winter sport sign ups did go up last week. Dave will update us on schedulable teams. Indoor Track was not offered.

• APPR Negotiations will meet again on Wednesday.

• The budget calendar is progressing. Teachers will be receiving information regarding purchasing first.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m., in the library.
