Woodgate Postal patrons receive survey forms; public meeting set for October 10

Patrons of the Woodgate Post Office have received their opinion surveys this week from the Postal Service, with a two-week period for filling them out and returning them.

The first question asks whether respondents approve of keeping their Post Office open by reducing the window hours to four hours per day, Monday through Saturday.

Woodgate Citizens Committee Chairman John Isley is requesting that everyone mark this question in the affirmative.

Doing so would keep the post office open, he said.

Even with the shorter window time, the lobby would remain open with access to post office boxes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is expected that the shorter window hours would not be implemented before November.

The other three survey questions deal with closing the office and combining to a rural route, opening a contractor office or merging to a nearby post office.

According to Isley, over 700 signatures were obtained in 2011 to keep the post office open, so that is without doubt the desired course.

Postal representatives have scheduled a community meeting for Wednesday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m.

It will be held in the lobby of the Woodgate Post Office.

They will explain the realigned hours of the nationwide POSTPLAN, which will affect the Woodgate location.

Regrettably, many seasonal users, which have a stake in the decision, will have left the area before the meeting is held, according to Isley.
