Bringing service to the community: Inlet Board meets to regroup, discuss new cell tower plan

The Town of Inlet Board had been working with Independent Towers, LLC for the last few months in a pursuit to build a cell tower for emergency and local communications within the town.

However, Town Supervisor John Frey has reported that their plans with Independent Towers have since fallen through.

The original plan, according to Supervisor Frey, was to work with Independent Towers and AT&T to build the structure.

But due to AT&T’s recent failed merger attempt with T-mobile, Independent Towers no longer has the necessary funding to move forward with the project.Frey said the Inlet Board is trying to figure out the best course of action for the town and will be entering into new discussions on Monday, March 12 to determine if they should put up their own tower or continue to look for another  project partner.

“We see ourselves putting up a tower if we can get APA permissions—and all of the other permissions—for our emergency services and local communications, and make it available to any cell company that would like to come.

“If the tower is there, they (cell company) are more than willing to come. They are just not willing to spend the money to put the tower up at this point in time,” Frey said.
