Polar Bear Jr. Alpine racers head to state championship

The Junior Polar Bear Ski Club raced at Dry Hill along with the four other Adirondack Council race teams, Snowridge, Mohawk Valley, Woods Valley and Dry Hill on Sunday, February 12.

It was the racers first Slalom race of the season and the Polar Bears handled the course with great success.

Results of the race are as follows:J-6 Boys: 2nd – Thomas Levi; 3rd – Trevor Greene; 5th – Cedric Barkauskas; 9th – Logan Hodge J-5 Boys: 1st – Blake Greene; 2nd – Calvin Barkauskas; 5th – Tyler Kane J-4 Boys: 3rd – Charlie Uzdavinis; 6th – Matt Parent; DSQJoshua Kelly J-6 Girls: 2nd – Madeline Prichard; 3rd – Karleigh Hollister J-5 Girls: 3rd – Hannah Kane J-4 Girls: 1st – Chloe Barkauskas; 4th – Laura Levi; 5th – Alexis Hollister; 7th – Alex DiOrio; 8th – Alex Sutherland; 10th – Sydney Payne; 11th – Lauren Beckingham; 12th- Shelby Townsend On February 19th, the team traveled to Woods Valley for the last council race of the season before the Adirondack Council named their J-4 NYS Championship team.

Following the race, J-4 Polar Bear junior racers were chosen to represent the Adirondack Council at the NYS Championship Races on March 3 and 4 at Whiteface (Giant Slalom) and Pisgah Mountain (slalom).

Five girls and five boys were chosen to advance. Each racer can get a maximum of 12 finishes, three at each of the four council races: McCauley Mountain, Snowridge, Woods Valley and Dry Hill. Their top five results determine their qualification and ranking to J-4 states.

Among the girls who will be representing the Adirondack Council at the championship races are J-4 girls: 1st seed – Chloe Barkauskas, 4th seed – Laura Levi, and 5th seed – Alexis Hollister. Among the J- 5 boys who will compete are: 2nd seed – Matt Parent and 3rd seed – Charlie Uzdavinis.
