Town of Webb’s Police Chief reports on local department’s recent activity

The following police activity report was given by Town of Webb Police Chief John Russell.

On Wednesday, February 1, Richard Neenan, Jr., 40, of Feura Bush, NY was operating a snowmobile on Big Moose Road, when he lost control and struck a tree. Neenan was transported by Inlet Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. The cause of the accident was undetermined at press time.

On Monday, January 30, Eric J. Menz, 28, of Eagle Bay was ticketed for reckless operation, not having a trail permit, and having no insurance after he collided with another snowmobile on Trail 5, just south of  Eagle Bay. Menz struck a snowmobile owned by Colin Burton who had stopped to assist another snowmobiler with a disabled sled.Also on Monday, January 30, James R. Dosztan, 41, of Port Leyden, NY was stopped on State Route 28 in the McKeever area. Dosztan was subsequently arrested for driving an ATV while in an intoxicated condition. He is scheduled to return at a later date to the Town of Webb Court and appear before the Honorable James Miller.

On Sunday, January 29 at approximately 2 a.m., Andrew Ward, 25, of Rochester, was arrested for disorderly conduct on Hollywood Hills Road after throwing snowballs at a police car. At around 2:20 a.m., Town of Webb Police were called to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on Hollywood Hills Road. The victim was 24-year-old Thomas Maron of Rochester. Maron and five friends had been walking down the side of the road when a vehicle driven by Russell D. Weidel, 34, of Sauquoit struck Maron. Maron was then transported to Utica by the Old Forge Ambulance with a broken leg and possible internal injuries. Weidel, who fled the scene of the accident was located by Town of Webb Police and arrested at approximately 3 a.m. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident, and failure to comply. He was arraigned before the Honorable John Graham and was remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

On Saturday, January 28, Town of Webb Police along with Old Forge Fire Department personnel, responded to an early evening automatic alarm call at a rental property located at 349 South Shore Acres. The cause of the alarm was an individual who was smoking marijuana in the residence. Edward F. Carpezzi of Nanuet was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and issued a ticket to appear in Town of Webb Court at a later date.

On Thursday, January 26, a traffic stop for an uninspected motor vehicle resulted in the arrest of Melissa Hutchins, of Port Leyden. Hutchins was charged with having an uninspected vehicle, possession of marijuana, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. She was scheduled to reappear in Town of Webb Court on Monday, January 30.

On January 22, Town of Webb Police investigated a snowmobile accident on Trail 5 involving Dale Fortuna, 16, of North Port. Fortuna left the right hand side of the trail and lost control, causing him to strike a tree. He was transported by Old Forge Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with multiple internal injuries.

On Thursday, January 19, while snowmobiling Scott Burroughs, 34, failed to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed on Trail 5, causing him to leave the trail, and strike a rock and several trees.

He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with multiple injuries.

Tuesday, January 17, Catherine M. Shoemaker, 24, of Lancaster, PA failed to negotiate a curve while snowmobiling on Trail 1 causing her to strike a tree. She was transported by Old Forge Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with a possible broken arm.
