CAP-21 honors ‘Tip of the CAP’ winners at award ceremony

CAP-21 hosted the Tip of the CAP Awards—an annual event that recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations that have made positive contributions to their communities—at the Forge Motel on Thursday, October 20

Nominations were made by community members and represent the towns of Forestport, Webb, Inlet and Long Lake. The winners of each category are as follows:

BUSINESS LEADER AWARD

Billy’s Italian American Restaurant, Old Forge – Owner and operator Billy Burns was recognized for establishing a charity dinner night that benefits community organizations, and for truly giving back to the community

Herb and Carol Schmid of Kalil’s Grocery Store are the winners from the Town of Inlet for their long-time support of the City Kids program, for their generous support of One Square Mile of Hope and Inlet senior programs, as well as their many commitments to the Town of Inlet.

Bill Allen of Allen’s Fine Jewelry, Gifts & Repairs; Bill Allen, for his long-standing support of the Central Adirondack Association, the Town of Webb and a multitude of community events and organizations.

Bob Card and Helen Zyma of Old Forge’s Strand Theatre, for their commitment to building preservation and restoration as well as their willingness to support the community in any number of ways—and for just making movie-going fun.

GOOD NEIGHBOR

Jack Scott was the winner of the Good Neighbor award for the Town of Forestport for his generosity of spirit and commitment to so many community activities and organizations in Forestport.

Jeannie Wollcott, also of Forestport for her commitment to energizing the cultural and recreational spirit of Forestport.

Samantha Bateman of Long Lake for her tireless volunteer work in making Long Lake even more beautiful.

The following Good Neighbor award recipients are all from the Town of Webb:

Lucy Luce was a Good Neighbor winner for giving of herself in so many ways and her support and assistance to many of her neighbors.

Anne and Rod Phinney for their work in establishing another regional destination event— Hoofbeats of the Adirondacks—as well as for their support to help increase the accessibility of arts for children.

Carl Klossner for his ongoing support of the Polar Bears Ski Club and winter recreation for youth.

Daniel Roberts and Martha Denio for their volunteer work in spreading hope and joy throughout the holiday season.

Bill Ransom for being the ultimate helping hand for many projects and organizations throughout the region.

Skip Oswald for his passionate involvement and support of the Town of Webb Historical Association.

Diane Heroux for her dedication to both the Kinderwood and Polar Bear programs.

Kelly Noonan-Greene for always being a positive driving force behind functions that support safety and education in the Town of Webb.

Gisele Kress for her work in developing MAC’s Safer Ride and After the Prom, as well as for protecting the safety of our young adults.

Deb Burrington-Mills for her support of the arts and her generous donations to local nonprofits.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION AWARD

Recipients for the Town of Inlet are Connie Perry, Paula Stanton and the One Square Mile of Hope Committee for their work in making Inlet a world-class destination and in supporting cancer research.

The Raquette Lake Free Library is the Community Organization Award recipient for the Town of Long Lake for its 89 years of dedicated cultural stewardship and services to Raquette Lake.

The Winner for the Town of Forestport is Walter Paprock for energizing the work of the Woodgate’s Citizens Committee and keeping postal service in Woodgate.

From the Town of Webb, MAC’s Safe Ride for advocating and protecting the health and safety of our youth and community.

Also from Webb, Niccoll’s Women Fellowship for all of their work to help their neighbors, to enrich the town and to expand the idea of community support.

Community Organization Awards were also given to the outstanding volunteers at View.

David and Paula Weal, Margo and Jack Boylan, Thea Martin, and Nancy Jo Reed were honored for their tireless commitment to supporting the arts and VIEW.

The Public Service Award recipient for this year was Supervisor Robert Moore who received the award for his decade of unstinting and dedicated public service to the Town of Webb.
