Services planned for Frances S. Eck, 74

Frances (Sardina) Eck age 74, of Utica, NY and Florida passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in Florida.

She was born in Utica on March 30, 1941, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Rosalie LaBarbara Sardina. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, received her Bachelor of Science from Utica College of Syracuse University, and went on to earn her Master’s Degree from Syracuse University Graduate School. 

On October 7, 1967 she was married to Michael R. Eck at Mt. Carmel Church, a blessed union of 43 years until his passing on August 1, 2010.

Frances began her career with the Utica City School District where she taught Special Education. She then advanced to become the SETRC Training Specialist at the Oneida-Madison BOCES, spanning a tenure of over 30 years until her retirement.

She was a member of the NYS United Teachers Assoc., and served on many NYS Education Committees in her dedicated years of service.

In her pastime, Frances was an avid golfer, world traveler, and operator of her own antique business. She had an extensive “Snoopy” collection that brought her and her family much joy.

She loved spending time at her home in White Lake, NY as well as her winter residence in Florida, but Frances derived her main happiness from the time she spent with her loving family and friends.

Frances is survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn Sardina of Utica; her beloved nieces and nephews Jean Marie Sardina Thomas and husband Jim of FL., Nancy Ann Sardina Streichert and husband Tom of Utica, Carol Sardina Foster and husband Steve of CT., Mary Terese Sardina of Utica and Jack and Rose Sardina of NJ.; her aunt Mowie Alaimo; many great nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; her dear friends Virginia Camijani and Homer Sardina, whom were great aid in her time of need, Steven and Kelly Gassner, and her canine companion, Trixie. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Sardina, infant brother Joseph Sardina, and her in-laws Robert and Mae Eck.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass in church. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Lupus Foundation, in memory of Frances.
