ANCA summit to help Ad’ks benefit from renewable energy programs

The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) is hosting a one-day summit to explore how Northern New York businesses and residents can reap the financial benefits of shared renewable energy projects even when an installation is not on their own property.

The event will be held at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake on March 31.

Nearly 100 attendees are registered for the Summit, including solar developers, financial institutions, municipal leaders, installers, and citizens interested in clean energy.

Only two shared solar projects existed in the United State in 2010, according to reports. Today 77 utilities administer 111 projects across 26 states, accounting for a combined capacity of about 106 megawatts.

And shared solar has the potential to grow to 30 gigawatts by 2020, according to the Rocky Mountain Institute.

That’s a big opportunity for Northern New York’s economy, and made possible through Governor Andrew Cuomo’s approval of the Shared Renewables Initiative last year, according to ANCA.

Among the presenters at the ANCA summit is NY Green Bank president Alfred Griffin. He will discuss how NY Green Bank financial instruments can help increase investments into New York’s clean energy markets. This follows up on discussion at a meeting hosted by ANCA last year.

ANCA is an independent nonprofit organization working to build dynamic local economies that sustain thriving communities in northern New York.

Since 1955, ANCA has leveraged the investment of hundreds of millions of dollars into the region in sectors that drive sustainable local economic development.
