Winners and Honorable Mentions of the Old Forge Library’s “Boundaries” Poetry and Illustration Contest were announced in front of a capacity crowd at an opening exhibit reception held at the library on Tuesday, March 15th.
The contest was open to residents of Herkimer, Oneida and Madison Counties and the Town of Inlet with contestants following the theme of “Boundaries.”
Library Director Isabella Worthen said there were 217 poetry entries and a record number of illustration entries.
“There were 267 illustration entries—more than double last year’s numbers, which is amazing. Typically we receive more poetry entries,” she said.
She noted this was the first year that students from Rome Catholic and the Camden School District participated in the contest.
Prizes were awarded by Emcee Michael Cunningham and winners and honorable mentions had the opportunity to read and/or discuss their work.
The judges for the poetry exhibit were Kathryn Howd Machon and Caperton Tissot. The judges for the illustrations were Beverly J. Saunders and Linda Weal.
The exhibit will be on display in the library wing and the upstairs Gallery Room through May 25th. All are invited to stop during library hours to vote for their favorite entry.
