VIEW: Youth musical theater dance classes return

Due to popular demand, Musical Theater Dance Classes for students ages 8 to 12 are now an ongoing weekly event at VIEW, the arts center in Old Forge.

Classes will be held on most Fridays from March through June from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The classes are designed to help students reach their fullest potential by sharpening their acting, singing, and dancing abilities.

Classes will focus on various genres of acting, including dramatic, comedic, and improvisation.

Students will also spend time learning basic dance technique and terminology, and will learn a portion of a Broadway song and dance.

Instructor is Sarah Smith, a musical theater and tap teacher from Clinton, NY.

She received her BA in Theater from SUNY Potsdam, specializing in acting and dance.

Since graduating, she has gone on to choreograph and direct numerous local musicals, including Seussical the Musical and Annie.

She is in her fifth year of teaching at Ondrea’s CenterStage Dance Studio, where she developed a musical theater program, and has since won the studio numerous awards, including Best Performing Arts School and the “X-caliber” award for excellence in musical theater.
