Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education meets February 16th

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. The following, provided by the school district, is a summary and does not represent approved minutes.

Public Forum: Discussed the Instructional School Calendar for 2016-2017 and reviewed the School Lunch Budget for 2016-2017.

The Board reviewed the following information and took the following action:

Approved the Minutes of the February 2, 2016 meeting.

Approved the Warrants and Claims.

Approved the Treasurer’s Report for January 2016.

Approved the Instructional Calendar for the 2016-2017 school year.

Approved the appointment of Spring Sports Coaches:

• Girls’ Varsity Softball – Travis Kiefer

• Girls’ Modified Softball – Kristen Armendola

• Boys’ Varsity Baseball – Douglas Riedman

• Boys’ Modified Baseball – Jason Perkins

• Coed Varsity Golf – John Ehrensbeck 

• Girls’ Varsity Track – Don Allen

• Boys’ Varsity Track – Tim Leach 

• Volunteer to Assist Varsity Golf – Don Haehl

• Volunteer to Assist Varsity Track – Kevin Kress

Approved the permanent appointment of Lisa Hanford, as Bus Driver/Cleaner, effective March 1, 2016.

Approved the appointment of Ashley Turner as Substitute Teacher and Substitute Teacher Aide.

Approved the CSE recommendations from the Committee on Special Education.

Approved the increase in hours for Marie Candee, Cook.

Approved the Appointment of Carl Klossner as Substitute School Administrator.

Accepted the letter of Intent for purposes of retirement from Susan Smith, Science Teacher effective October 21, 2016.

Principal’s ReportMr. John Swick submitted the following information:

Senior chorus and Senior band along with Ms. Gaudin, Mrs. Herrmann and Mr. Leach enjoyed the performance 42nd Street at the Stanley Theatre last Wednesday, February 10.

The Bridge Arts Ensemble spent last Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12 in Old Forge. Our K-12 students traveled to View for two separate concerts. The Bridge Arts Ensemble conducted workshops with our students both days.

Our Senior Class attended the OHM Job Fair on Tuesday, February 9, under the direction of Mr. Cunningham, Senior Advisor. The director of the OHM B.O.C.E.S. specifically commented on the presentation of our students and how well they performed.

K-5 parent/teacher conferences took place on Friday, February 5 and Monday, February 8.

Mid-year data chats took place between myself and all teachers regarding midterms and the 2nd quarter report cards.

Nordic Sectionals took place on Wednesday at McCauley Mountain. Our girls team won the distance race and the relay to claim the Section III title. The boys team took second in the distance race but won the relay to claim the Section III title. All 10 members of the team qualified to represent Section III at the State Championships in Lake Placid on Monday, February 22 and Tuesday, February 23.

Alpine Sectionals took place at Snow Ridge on Wednesday. Our Girls and Boys team won Section III again this year. All 8 of our girls team are going to the State Championships in Lake Placid on Monday, February 22 and Tuesday, February 23 with three of our boys earning spots to represent Section III.

Our boys’ Varsity basketball team finished 12–9 for the season. Congratulations to the boys on their first winning season in several years.
