Old Forge: St. Bartholomew’s Food Pantry in need of volunteers

A cut in hours to the Food Pantry at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge has been prompted by a seasonal loss of volunteers.

Normally open every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. during the month of February, the Pantry will be closed on February 11 and 25.

The hours for the month of March are currently under review pending the interest of new volunteers.

“The new schedule will be posted at the Pantry and we will always be available by phone for emergencies as they arise. The public and our current clients should rest assured that no one will go without due to the new hours of operation,” said Debbie Dote, church secretary.

Though the needs of the community have not diminished, Dote said there isn’t enough staff to keep the Pantry open all the days they would like.

Volunteers are asked to contribute 2 1/2 hours per month, more if they are willing.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can call the St. Bartholomew’s office at (315) 369-3554.
